The Origin Of Lucky Number 8

You ask most people what their lucky number is and I bet they say 7 right?Not for me, my lucky number is 8. Because and I would love to know the true origin behind the number 8 being the lucky number but isn't number 8 greatly revered by the Chinese?Does anyone know the story or the background as to why the Chinese have the number 8 as their respected lucky number to mean fortune?The reason why 8 is my lucky number is because I was born in the Year of the pig in 1971 and the pig is celebrated every 12 years, as each of the 12 animals in the Chinese New Year. Thus 1983, 1995 and 2007 are Pig years. This year has turned out great for me because I had the strength to leave my abusive relationship, so that is partly why I consider 8 to be a very lucky number.
So why is 8 lucky and do you follow the Chinese Year?

Well, you are right.8 is the lucky number ,because in Chin-
a the number 8 means fortune. And why this number means fo-
rtune,that is beacause the pronunciation of the number 8 in
Guang dong Province in China is like the pronunciation of 'Fa' which is one of the Chinese word and means fortune.
So in China the lucky number is 8.
And it is so good that you know the 12 animals in the Chin-
ese New Year.This year is the pig year,your years.Congratulations!This is your lucky years.By the way, in fact I was born in the pig year, 1983, too.(But unfortunately, I was registered born in 1982 in ID card. )

dear wolfie...me TOO !!! i heard on the radio on a late night talk show called COAST TO COAST which is an international talk show around the beginning of this summer to carry the number 8 around in your pocket to get wealth to come into your life...i cut out a number 8 from a magazine and taped it on my license, as my driver's license is something i always carry around...well..it takes several months, but guess what..i went from a 95 chevy car to a honda accord, from a noika cellphone to a pink motorola razr cellphone, from just having a pc computer to know owning for free a laptop also...try it and see what happens and let me know...i would say it works, and i don't know the origin of the number 8 either, but try this and put the number 8 in your pocket and carry it everywhere...it WORKED for ME....stanzi

dear wolfie... yeah, your lucky number is ALREADY number 8 so i can just imagine what your lucks gonna be, lol...my avatar represents me owning 2 lopeared rabbits, though that is not a mini lopeared rabbit as i own...my female rabbit is expecting bunnies any day now, so i'll have to name one wolfie..ok??...stanzi

According to Fengshui, the cycle of 8 has just started so EIGHT has become extra powerful.

You should visit the site of the numbers lady, Glynnis McCants, wolfie. She is a great proponent of the number 8, and advises people on how to use it for prosperity purposes. I know that she says all the time that you should write the number on a piece of paper and carry it in your wallet and you will receive money. I've tried it and it works. The caveat is that you cannot get too greedy or it will backfire on you. I believe her website is www.thenumberslady.com.

In chinese, the pronouse of 8 is similar to that of the "getting rich" for shot. So people commonly take 8 as lucky number.
Yes, this year is pig year, but sorry to say it's not my one..
Anyway, it's so happy to see u are so interested in China~
