What's the secret of losing weight on a low carb diet?

I've always wondered why so many people are obsessed with the low carb diet craze. I can't imagine that eating big glops of meat could actually be healthy. There are lots of people that eat no meat at all and are super healthy. Maybe there's another hidden factor that I'm not seeing.
Maybe the weight loss success of a low carb diet has more to do with the foods that you eliminate from the diet, like processed breads, processed foods, flour and sweets. You won't get any argument from me that those foods are bad for the waist line.
And, I have no problem doing away with that type of food. But, I just can't see why it's necessary to eat all that beef. Does beef have some magic element that I'm not seeing? What do you think? What is the secret success factor of a low carb diet?

I have tryed it and it worked for me. I never ate a lot of beef. I mostly had chicken, fish and porkchops with stirfried vegtables or salad. I also drunk a lot of water doing this diet. Also i ate fruits for my snacks. The hardest part of it was leaving startches along. I got use to it though. My problem now is to much junk food and soda.

Mainly chicken or fish with lettuce most of the time. Sometimes I would eat pork chops with lettuce or mixed vegtables like carrots and onion mixed together. I also had snacks like apples and oranges and watermellon. The key is to drink a lot of water.

Carbs turn into sugars in your body which is the first thing to be stored as fat...You dont have to eat just beef if your doing a high protein diet. Chicken and fish are also very high in protein...and tofu...and dont say its gross until you try it...Has even higher amounts of protein that beef. You do have to be extremely careful when doing the high protein diet though...It can raise your blood pressure immensley if you dont keep an eye on it.. And the meat you eat should still be lean not the steaks with excessive fat around them...yuck anyway...I personally cant give up the carbs completley and you shouldnt anyway...And just remember that once you lose the weight..if you go off the diet then you put it right back on quickly.

The key behind a lower carb diet is the sugar in take. Eat in moderation and focus on getting your fruits and veggies. Try not to eat processed foods (that includes white sugar, margarine, boxed meals, bleached enriched white or wheat flour etc), eat the lower calorie dairy foods (skim milk, low fat yogurt - not fat free b/c that has processed sugar in it), eat organic foods (if you buy boxed cereal, granola bars, etc this guarantees that you don't get processed sugar), eat whole grains (make sure that there is no processed sugar hiding in there), take a multi vitamin to ensure you get enough Vitamin D and calcium (this helps the body get rid of fat).
You don't need to eat all the beef! People who stay on low carb too long actually can get very sick from it. All that red meat is not good for you at all. In fact, there is really no reason for us to eat any meat since we can get protein from other places - like beans. We should however eat fish for the Omega 3 benefits.
Instead of being on a low carb diet, you need to get a healthy life style. A diet should not be viewed as something short term to just loose a few pounds. Your diet should be a life long commitment to keeping you healthy and should be well rounded to ensure that you are getting your key nutrients.

What I only know about carbohydrates is that it turns into fat for quite some time after digestion. But the more to the fact about carbohydrates is that it an energy source. Eating more protein could turn into a more serious problem in the later years of your life you could develop arthritis with so much protein in the body.

I have to eat low carb because of being diabetic and when I stay on my diet I lose weight with no problem. I also have high cholesterol so I can't just eat a bunch of meat every day, it is truly all about balance.

Protein and fat tend to let you feel satisfied earlier so eventually you end up eating less total calories...the problem with these diets is that the weight usually piles back on once you stop following the plan.

I have never been on a diet. I eat whatever I like and get it off by exercising and not by dieting. So I am not an expert or something at this, but it goes something like this -
Carbs and fats are like fuel which is needed for our body to remain mobile and carry out the bodily functions. Each gram of carb has approximately 4 KILO-calories and each gram of fat has 9 KILO-calories. The proteins can also be used for energy-supply to our body but its main function is to build muscles but in case of shortage of carbs and fats, the proteins are used for energy-supply as the last resource of energy and each gram of protein ONLY 4 CALORIES (not KILO-calories).
When it comes to energy-supply, carbs are used as the first source of energy, then fats and at the end proteins. If we intake more calories than what is required by our body then they are stored as a reserve for future use.
When a person is on a diet which is low in carbs and high on protein (and very less fat, if any), he is taking less calories than what is required by the body and thus inducing the body to tap into the previously stored carbs and fats reserves. In this way, the excess carbs and fats reserves are used up and the person starts losing weight.
Generally, the foods like the red meat, fish, eggs, etc have higher amount of proteins (hence less calories) as compared to other foods and thus when people are on low carb diet, they are usually asked to gorge on meat.
About meat having magical powers of weight-loss, no, you don't necessarily have to eat meat to lose weight. You can also lose weight by just controling your diet and eating other foods that have less calories in them but it may take more time for you lose weight.
You see, over our life-span our body gets used eating certain amount of food and the thing with meat is that you can eat lots of it at one time so you are satisfying your hunger and yet not taking in too many calories. And if you want to only take as many (many stands for less here) calories as you may have taken through eating meat, by eating something else then you may have to starve yourself which is never good for the body.
I hope you have understood at least a little bit of what I have tried to explain. I have tried to simplify it as much as I could. But on second thought I have never been good in making people understand things. Cheers.

drink water only 10 minutes after you eat your meal...this way your belly won't gain any fat or the likes...
