What's the last book that you read to your child?

Just last night, we read our daughter a really cute book called, "The sheep is asleep." I can't remember the name of the author, but it's for beginning readers and preschoolers. Very adorable. It's a mix between a picture book and simple sentences that keep repeating. Very age appropriate, too.
She loves it very much and points at the pictures and repeats the sentences with us. Sometimes I will catch her pretending to read the book. She will turn the pages and repeat the sentences that she remembers.
What's the last book that you read to your child? Does your child demand a bed time story every night? Does it help them go to sleep, right away?

Well I am currently reading The complete works of Whinnie the Pooh to my daughter. Only reason is because I got tired of reading Disney Princess books and I needed a switch. I know she likes Pooh, but the writing in it I think is more geared for older children. She's only 6 and some of it she gets and some just kind of leaves her like huh. I think because its written mostly in the second and third person.

The last book that I read for my daughter is about a boy that can go to the toilet him self. She like to hear about that since now she already went to the toilet her self and not wearing diapers anymore. She is so proud of it.

My son loves books and I try to read one or more to him every night. Even when we go away I try to take a couple of books with us. At the moment we are reading the clifford the big red dog books. They are great and Clifford is on austar at the moment. My son does go to sleep a lot easier and I love the us time. We can cuddle up as we read. His favourite book that we read at least once a night it dig and dug. Everytime we read this book he always points out the pictures of the cow, sheep and scarecrow. It's is so cute.

We read multiple stories every day. I think the last one we read was a Care Bears Christmas story. I can't remember the name of it. Something about the spirit of Christmas.
I finally got Elliott to let me put away the Halloween books last week, and we've been reading 3 or 4 Christmas books every day since. We also read "Two Sleepy Skunks" or at least I think that's the name of it. He wants it every day before he takes a nap.

The last book i read to my son was Mr mens "Mr bump".
Nearly everytime i ask him to get me a book he wants me to read to him, he picks "Mr bump".
Most of the time he wants me to read it again after aswell.
I don't think i'm very good at reading, but he doesn't seem to care. Its quite rewarding though because aswell as him enjoying the story its nice for someone to listen to a story i'm reading other than like when i was at school the other students look at you like you are stupid.

Tonight we read, "You Can Do It,Sam" by Amy Hest. It is a cute book about a bear learn to do something by himself with the support of his mom. It has great illustrations to talk about and expand the story a bit. My son enjoys it.

I just read Sweet Dreams, Mimi to my daughter who is a year and a half old. We bought it before she was born because her nickname is Mimi. It is a Little Einstein's board book. She "reads" it all the time.
She has a bunch of books, but she has to turn the pages herself and the others have paper pages. Though she doesn't try and tear them out, her little fingers aren't very adept at turning yet and the pages end up mangled.
We are getting her a bunch more board books for Christmas.
Both my husband and I love to read, so we hope to instill the same in her.

Hi beautyqueen,
Currently I'm reading Enid Blyton's "Faraway Tree" to my kids (5, 8 and 10), they love it, - it is a "special edition" with beautiful, colourful pictures to every story. The individual stories are just right for a bed-time story (about 15 to 20 minutes) and Enid Blyton, in my opinion, is one of the best child-book authors, as the kids just love her books (so did I when I was little).
The 10 year old one doesn't listen to these stories anymore, she reads her own favourites. But I read this book and many others to her before, when she was little.
All of my kids also liked to sing. I have some beautifully illustrated children song-books with lullaby's and nursery rhymes. Some of the songs are more than 500 years old, the stuff my grandma used to sing to me, as her's did to her...
So it is not always a story.
With my 10 year old I often have talks about whatever goes on in her beautiful mind. I really enjoy these moments.
My youngest one is the one, demanding her "right" for a bed-time treat. Most of the times she prefers singing. But every single night I have to lay down with her and after the songs (or the story) I have to lay there until she falls asleep.
This is my own "fault", as I stopped believing in the "controlled crying". I got "warned" by experienced mothers and midwifes, that when I start this (laying down with her), I will get stuck with it and have to do this "forever".
So what!!?? We just snuggle up the ten minutes it usually takes for her to fall asleep (in rare cases up to 30 minutes) and that is all. Sometimes I fall asleep to, sometimes I don't.
But I have a lot of very conscious memories of my little girl, when the dimmed light in the hallway shines on her little face and her eyes open and close, trembling, as she drifts away into the land of dreams and nothing can take this away from me!
And of course, I,just being there with her, helps her to go to sleep.
Sooner or later she will be too old for this, I guess, by the time she turns 16 or so. Then she probably doesn't want me that close anymore lol...
I only soak these memories in, fully aware, it won't last forever, so I make the best out of it for both of us.
Cheers ;)

At 16 months, my son doesn't yet demand being read to. In fact reading him books is often frustrating as he is pulling at them and trying to turn the pages to his favorite pictures. Yesterday we were reading out of his Beginners Bible and he kept trying to turn it to the picture of all the animals (when they are getting on the ark) so he could point at the dog and bark. We still try to read books, but more often then not he likes them better when he is checking them out for himself.

My oldest daughter read to us last night. She read a book called "Boxes" about boxes of all shapes and sizes and what they could be if one used their imagination. My youngest daughter and I read TV Rex about a boy who goes into the TV and has an adventure. We don't tend to read at bedtime, except for my youngest at nap. My oldest reads as part of her homework every night.

I have a 7 year old a 4 year old and an 8 month old...All of them love being read to. My Oldest daughter(7) And 4 year old daughter room together so its easier to read them a bed time story together and not with their baby brother. I just read them Welcom Comfort by Patricia Pulacco...And its nice now that my 7 year old can read wonderfully we switch...every other night she reads the book to us and that gives her practice for school. We try to read every night and I make sure that they only get about an hour of TV and then send them to read or color so they dont get over exposed to TV.
