I walked into Wal mart the other day (my least favorite place) and people starred at me. I worked all day on weedeaters and chainsaws. I was kinda shocked that so many proffesional looking people were there. I bought a lot of stuff and every time I rounded a corner someone was looking at me. Frustrating. What ever happened to Goodies or sears? These kind of people spend big money on the good stuff.

That stinks DB. I hate some places too (but that's if the workers give me crap, not so much the customers). There are other instances too where I just get the crappiest looks from people. It can't be the way I dress. I'm usually in business/business casual and slacks or in something refined. And I still get the dumb looks. If only I could "adjust" a couple of the really bad ones. -_-

Definitely, so its a bit more obvious things are going to get "dirty".
Still, getting the dumb looks over that, it isn't cool. Sorry about the carwash instance too. Was that a service one or a self-service bay?

Hello Dbmax41,
Not to worry friend! Just because the professionally dressed folks are now regularly buying from Walmart, doesn't mean that your purchasing dollars are any less valuable.
I'm not familiar with Goodies, but I do remember when Sears' largest competition was Montgomery Ward. It was quite typical to see working folks in both, purchasing tools and supplies.
My hubby regularly stops at a store, or two after work. And, by his appearance, there's no question that he's just gotten off work. He doesn't care if people stare. 'Cause the next time they need something built, they'll take comfort in the fact that he looks like he works hard for his money.
I do understand your sentiment though. I regularly purchase chicken feed & supplies from a local Ranchway distributor. Nowadays it's quite common to see folks all gussied up there shopping for dog & cat toys. I think the trend just represents brick & mortar stores having to broaden their appeal, to compete with on-line stores.
As long as Walmart or Ranchway don't intitiate a dress-code, then I think it's just fine that we can run into folks from all walks of life when we do our shopping. Geesh, had I seen you shopping the other day, I probably would have asked you if you work on Roto-tillers, 'cause our big tiller definitely needs some help -- sputter, sputter, choke.
