Think about this...

I was talking to my boyfriend last night before we went to sleep and this was our conversation. We were talking about how we are basically a brain and our body is there to protect the brain. The brain controls everything but very few people even think about their brains. I mean, you don't even use your brain to really think about your brain.
Is your brain just humble like that? Maybe the brain doesn't want too much attention, so the brain doesn't think about the brain.
Get it?

I'm not convinced, firstly because the brain interacts with other organs; the heart for instance has its own neural network and secondly because no one has produced a convincing argument that the mind can be reduced to just the functioning of the brain.

I wasn't trying to imply that we can function on a brain alone. Obviously that is impossible.

The body does have lots of fancy mechanisms to protect the brain... but it also has similar methods to protect the heart, spinal cord, etc. etc. So part of the body's function is defintely to protect the brain, as well as other vital organs. But another major function of the body is to carry out the instructions that brain issues, whether it's walking or talking or eating or reading.
It's true that we don't usually use our brains to think about our brains, unless we're working on a science paper about the human body, or hearing about someone who has Alzheimer's disease and who can't use their brain effectively anymore.
Maybe we need a national Brain Appreciation Day to recognize all that our gray and white matter do for us!

Hmm... I never really thought of it that way.
I guess the CPU in the body is just busy processing all our thoughts and putting them into actions with the body.
The brain has the main purpose of ensuring everything is working. From the pumping of the heart, to the digesting of food, to the circulation of blood. I guess it does think of itself to some extend.
Explain why one would feel sleepy?
Explain why one would dream?
Explain why one would feel headaches?
These are all the little signs that the brain is taking care of itself, together with all the other things it has to take care of as well.

That is a very interesting thought. We can live without many of our body parts, but definitely not our brains. Of course, all of who we are as individuals are housed in our brains, too. The heart, for example, can be transplanted and the person would still be the same person. A brain transplant, though, would completely change who a person is if one were even possible. You have very interesting conversations in your home! LOL

Stoners, what can I say? :P lol
People say they know who they are, but they probably know very little about how their body is working.... which is really who you TRULY are, right? I don't know.. I store what little knowledge I have about brains in a brain.. what irony.

Maybe people dont think about their brains controlling their body's and every function they do through out the day because most people only use 10% of their brain...What are the other possibilities our heads contain that we just havent gotten to yet or learned how to open and use?

In my opinion, brain is the 'Hard-disk' of our body. We must always be careful for its physical as well as mental wellness. We must feed our brains with healthy and noble thoughts from all around in our everyday life. Thinking of brain and its managing is quite important for all of us! Thanks for this brainy discussion.

WOw....very weird topic..sorry if that is offending..!!
But good one.
But I am a little bit confused here!!
Are you talking about the thinking of brain..or the physical existence brain in a body??
AS if your talking in a physical way then brain is another part of a human body. So as brain takes care of the another parts of the body it also takes care of itself too.
Like the thing that your are tired even when you are just sitting and studying..!! Its actualy your brain which is tired, so it tells you to take a brake and calm down your brain.
It knows what food will make your memory sharp(again a part of brain)!!
Similarly there are many ways your brain take care of itself efficently..!!

Very interesting - I must say I've never thought about this. The heart seems to be the big grand stander, gets all the attention.

The human brain is the most powerful computer in the world. It is said that "Positive results begin with positive thinking." Also "In order to be a winner, you have to think like a winner."
Therefore we need to educate our brains well. It charts our destiny.

Very interest thought..... the brain doesn't think about the brain. Hmmm
Makes me think of studies we discussed in my graduate school classes about Meta Cognition ~~ thinking about thinking. But that is a little different than the brain not thinking about the brain.

I think the brain is not self serving in a sense it thinks about everything else like, taking care of breathing, the heart beat, and thinking getting its person through its day to day operations that it does not have time to think of its self.
I also think it is immodest and does not want to have to much attention paid upon itself.
Look at how mad the brain gets when you cut open the skull and peer into the brain. The brain does not like to be seen. LOL
My brain has been cut into in 2002 and it has been mad at me ever sense.

Whoa! LOL Never thought about this, but it does make some sense to me. Of course the brain is who we are, what we think, how we feel, how we speak, talk, walk, its the center of our overall functions......without a brain our bodies would be like empty houses with no familes or furnishings other than our organs, that really can't function properly without the nerve impulses from the brain.
The brain doesnt have to think about itself, it's too busy regulating the organs and their functions, it has no time to think about itself.
Not sure if I hit on what you were thinking, lol, but it enlightened me! Thanks!
