I got caught by the same train twice yesterday going home. The first time, I got to see the "driver's" side of the train (though the engineer sits on the "passenger" side of the engine) as it passed. I noticed a lot of really pretty graffiti on the train. Then it passed and the arms went up and on the last leg of my travels to my house, I got caught again by the train and got to see the "passenger" side of the train. More graffiti. If these kids/adults who are spray painting the sides of the trains would actually do something productive with their artwork, we could have some great artists on our hands. Where have you seen graffiti? Was it pretty or just messed up? I took this photo yesterday on my way home on the side of that train. Lucky for me, it stopped for a moment and I was able to grab my camera and take a snapshot.

There are a few trains around where I work and I get to see plenty of Graffiti. One thing some cities do is have urban art parks so people can spraypaint. Also some buildings are purposefully done with grafiti art as community art. Unfortunately plenty of cities either have insufficient funds and drive to try something like this, or they don't care and automatically think "graffiti = scumbag did it" and not ALL of the people doing it are like this. Some just have it as an outlet of expression. No I'm not advocating vandalism, I just want a bit more understanding. Isn't that the thing, everyone preaches "understanding" but only up to a certain point... If something is too different, its met with fear, contempt or hatred.

I work for the railroad in Texas, and though i do not condone graffiti, especially when it comes to damaging personal property. I do see a whole bunch of graffiti, and some of it is out of this world. Too bad the work is not on canvas, i am sure it would make someone a lot of money.

Our buses are hit terribly by graffiti, but mostly teenagers scratch their motifs on the windows, it gets so bad that police have to monitor it, the buses have onboard cameras and their faces are published in the weekly papers to name them to get prosecuted. It's disgusting and yes their talents could be put to better use, but most have the attitude and most don't care and think it's a huge laugh. Thankfully I don't travel on buses much now, it costs the company thousands to replace the windows and when the government is trying to put more people onto public transport instead of using your car and you are faced with that!
