Who is to blame for Size 0 models?

December 1, 2007 7:40am CST
Recently there was a lot of discussion in the news and blaming one person or another for anorexic, bulimic and generally unhealthy models. These super-skinny edited models splashed all over billboards or super-skinny models on the catwalk are said to give young girls the wrong idea about a healthy body. So where do you stand on this issue? Who do you think is to blame for the increase of anorexic models and young girls? Where is the line between naturally slim and TOO skinny? How can we start promoting other body shapes so that girls who don't fit the "model image" don't starve themselves into anorexia?

I think we all have a hand in it. I mean, people from the fashion business placed these girls as cool and sexy and we on our part accepted and patronized that. We cant just blame the models because there many of them who starved themselves coz they just dont get the job coz some people at castings say that they're fat and that they're not what they're looking for. If in the 1st place we didnt patronize these "size 0 is sexy" thing, it wouldnt be a trend anyway. Thank God for people like Tyra that tells us curves are sexy.

I agree =] Thank God for models who have some body fat! I also LOVELOVELOVE myleene klass =]] Also, I saw ANTM recently, and a girl who was very slim was posing and the guy was commenting "Oh, I'm worried about her... She's been putting on a little weight recently, and I don't wanter her to get... well.. chunky" I wanted to wrangle his neck D

I think the one to blame on this issue are the models itself. The reason why you are hired them for that job is to promote the beauty of your body and the clothes that you sell to clients. Models are not hired to give a bad image on the fashion business. I think those girls who are too skinny must not be hired as models.

but these girls are picked out and chosen at a young age where they are easily moulded-- most of the time told constantly how fat they are. at that age you're easily affected by many things and may not be strong enough to ignore them and therefore starve yourself into anorexia or become bolemic... once everybody else is so skinny, too, you'd feel enormous for being a healthy weight!

I'm not sure there is anyone to blame. I firmly believe that eating disorders are a part of mental illness whether you be fat or thin. If you were mentally strong, then surely you wouldn't let peer pressure be a problem?

I don't see the problems with size 0 models as long as they are that size naturally / healthily. I am a size 4/6 UK sizes, which is the equivalent of a 0/2 in America and I do actually eat and I don't throw it up straight after. All the negative press of it makes it difficult and I have to buy size 8 clothes sometimes, since some stores don't do sizes small enough. This is sometimes a problem, but sometimes sizes are smaller than the size they say, so that is okay.
