We are looking at a house tomorrow (Sunday) and I am totally excited to say the least. This will be a big move if things work out. I am in love with the house already from just seeing the pictures.
The house is estimated to be built in 1860. Yeah, I know some of you are saying why do you want a home that old? Well I think they have personality and I've always wanted to furnish a home in antiques. That will take a while but it will become a work in progress as soon as we sell our current home. The house is in Mississippi, we live in Louisiana. However, the drive is only one hour and 15 minutes from our current home. This won't be too bad driving to work for either my husband or me.
Now back to the house! It has been totally restored, has new metal roof, new wiring, new plumbing and fixtures, all new light fixtures, original wooden floors throughout except the kitchen and both bathrooms. It is on two acres with oak and pecan trees dating up to 100 years old. It is 6.5 miles out of the city (yea!).
The house is two stories with 5 bedrooms and 2 baths. We will turn one bedroom into my office an one bedroom into a workout room. It has two fireplaces and two porches. The front porch runs the entire length of the front of the house, awesome! The back porch is not as long but good enough for a few rocking chairs and a small table.
There is enough room outdoors to have a larger aviary or separate aviaries if I decide to continue raising parrots. There is also plenty of room for dog kennels:)
I'll let you guys know how it goes. The price is right and the seller is motivated to sell and willing to negotiate the price. Wooohooo!
Oh, here is a picture!

I can't wait to see it. I hope that things are up to standard on it and the area is good. We haven't been up that way in years. I love the country setting and the house. Of course, they picked bright and modern colors for paint and I know one bedroom will need to be changed...it's a bright green...lol, looks even lime on the photo I have. Ewww.

Hi kareng,
This is an amazing house, and I hope that it works out for you to get it. I'm a sucker for old fashioned porches, fireplaces, and the other items you've mentioned. The old trees, and overall propery, sound great as well.

OMG that just sounds like my dream home!!!! I love old homes. In Florida though, my friends had an old home and had a very difficult time insuring it because of the age. I don't know how that is in any other state. I think that is a georgeous house and I would jump at the chance to buy it! I believe the older homes have a beauty to them, that can't be matched by the new cookie cutter homes that are being put out! I wish you the best of luck in this purchase!!!!

Haha, not as much as I have! I had trouble concentrating on work today. I kept pulling up the website and looking at the pictures. I'm sure my husband will be tired of my talking about this house before the end of the week and hopefully ready to start some paperwork.

Wow I hope you can sell your home to buy the one you want. I think this new home sounds great. We use to live in the country and the only down fall was all the bugs. We could not go outside in the summer becuse the misquetos were so bad.
Now we live in the city and can leave the sliding doors opened and only get a few flies.

This is a very lovely house and I love it, too:) I don't think this is a bad house although it has a long history. On the contrary, it is so special. I love to hear there are two acres with oak and pecan trees. That's just so fantastic!

If that is what you want, and it sounds ideal, then it will make a nice Christmas present to yourself or each other. It sounds like a wonderful home. I would love to put the metal roofing on our house. It is an old one, too.

Wow, this sounds like my dream house ... except in the wrong state! We've been trying to sell our house for over 2 years and it has been such a headache. I can't wait to move into a bigger house that will accomadate our growing family. 5 bedrooms would be just about right! Now if we can have the house that described for free we could afford it!!

I think it's fantastic that you are getting an older home. Can't see anything wrong with that. Older homes do have "character" and personality, and gee, it was built around 1860? The Civil War period? Wonder if there are any stories connected with a home like that. And to have trees that are so old sounds heavenly too! Good luck to you! :)
