Books, preferably cloth or plastic, that the baby can hold him or herself. Or clothes. They grow out of them so fast that they need new ones pretty often. Teething rings are also a good choice, since teething can start soon if it hasn't already.

At that age they don't really need much. Maybe some soft books that they can chew on, or blocks or balls to play with. Soft ones of course. You might be able to find some cute toys that have various textures and make sounds when played with. Something like that would probably be lots of fun. :)

I think it is a good idea to gift the little ones a toy which will both educate and entertain them.
I like Peek-A-Blocks from Fisher-Price. You can't go wrong with books. Or perhaps a gift certificate/card so that they can get what the baby needs: diapers, clothes, and all the other things that baby needs.

Clothing and educational toys would be great a 5-month old child. When buying for toys, check out the list of recalled items first; you can never be too careful. Good luck on your Christmas shopping.

this maybe is unusual for you but if the baby is bottle fed ask the mom what is the formula the baby is drinking and buy that for the child or diapers.
i have a cousin and she has a baby and when relatives ask her what can we give her child this Christmas she always say formula or diapers. so i think i can share this to you. hope it helps

Some toys are suitable from birth and other toys are suitable from six months of age. As the baby you are talking about is five months old I would get a toy that is right for a six month old baby. That is because the baby only has 4 weeks to go until he or she is that age. My son is just over six months old. However he has spina bifida so he will be getting presents suitable for a younger baby. I am giving him a soft toy lion that has textures to explore and best of all he has a bendable mirror tummy. My baby loves to touch toy animals and look at mirrors because he likes reflection and light. My mum is giving him a high and low chair that will be suitable for feeding and playing. It has a high back meaning that will feel comfortable whilst sitting in it and not slip over.

a savings bond. They dont' know what Christmas is all about anyway. other then that anything that you need for them. If you think about it their 1st birthday will be here before you know it and they will get a ton of stuff. I wish I would of said the savings bond for my daughter on her first Christmas. She might not need it now but later it will come in handy.
