Do you watch scary movies with the lights out?

Do you think that some horror movies are scarier when you watch them with the lights off? A long time ago, I watched the movie, Night Flyer, written by Steven King. At the time it was one of the scariest movies I'd ever seen. Even the Exorcist didn't compare with the creep factor of Night Flyer. I guess it didn't help that I watched the scary movie alone at midnight, with all the lights out. I swear, everytime something creaked in the house, I was scared that it was an intruder. As if the monster had crawled out of the screen into my house. Of course, later they made a movie where that really happened. It was called the Ring. I watched The Ring at eight AM in the morning, sunshine streaming through the windows. And, I still got scared out of my mind. Very spooky stuff. I guess some movies are just plain creepy with or without the lights on. What do you think?

If you are to watch a good horror movie, then you must have the lights out. This way it works much better, atmosphere is important thing when you watch movies.Better have a pillow near, too :)

I prefer to watch a movie with lights out. I have done watching horror movies with lights out to scare my cousins. Well they agreed on it though. I remember watching Exorcist with them before at the strike of midnight...friday the 13th. Well one thing one should realize is its only a movie made by human to scare humans. Always have a strong faith in God.

Hello dear beauty queen. You are right to say that it is just more scary if we turn off the light to watch scary movies. I never do this when I watch alone, but it is ok when I watch it with someone else for the scary effect. Thanks for the discussion.

yes, i do. i watch all movies with the lights out [as long as it's possible]. it's just better to enjoy the movie - no glare on the screen as well. but horror movies are definitely good to watch in the dark. although, i have to admit that if i were in your situation while watching night flyer - although i've never seen it and don't know what it's about - i'd probably be scared too. i'd never watch a scary movie at midnight alone in my house. i'd be too damn scared! haha.

For me I have to watch a scary movie in the dark. It makes it scarrier and all the more reason to cuddle up to my hubby. Plus it makes it easier to see the scenes that are dark.

I usually watch them with the lights out. I am with you, it seems like you hear every sound that the house makes. My son really likes to watch in the dark.

I agree I guess it depends on what the movie is and how scared you get. I think the worst for me was Silence of The Lambs. It's not even horror but a drama kind of movie. Of course I made the mistake of watching it at 12:am so it had me all freaked out.

i've also watched a horror movie with the lights off, it was nearly midnight. but too bad, the movie wasn't really that scary. I can't remember what it was. ^__^;; in fact, at the end I was left hanging and confused. I wanted more. I wanted to be scared more. LOL I didn't really think about the time of the day or about the lights, I just watch horror movies whenever I want to. but yeah, it is more scary to watch at night. i've seen a few horror movies during the night and it really added to the fright. ^__^;; especially if I know that I'm the only one awake and everybody in the house is fast asleep. I never thought of turning off the lights though. it just didn't come across my mind. and yeah, there are movies that are just plain scary even with the lights on and even if you're watching with a lot of people at home or in the cinemas. those movies are the best. ^__^

Sometimes I watch movies all night and with lights out of course to have better view. But I barely ever watch horror movies so I haven't watched any of them at night because I must admit that I am too scared to do it after midnight or even before. Sometimes I watch horror movies with friends, but I try never to watch them alone because I don't like being scared.

I don't like watching horror movies during any time of day. I don't care how many of the lights are on! My husband on the other hand, LOVES scary movies! The scarier the better. So, we have quite the scary movie collection. Even though I don't like watching them, I have still seen all of them. He watched girly movies with me too.

Night Flyer is a very creepy movie. But I think that The Ring creeped me out more. I can watch it in broad daylight and still get chills. Another movie that does that to me is The Sixth Sense. I saw it in the theater when it came out. It took a long time before I would ever watch it again lol. I don't usually turn the lights off when I'm watching a scary movie because if I get too comfortable, I'll go to sleep :D.

Nope. I won't do it for one reason only...my husband likes to scare the crap out of me. When we watched Signs...he made the alien noises and freaked me out. So now I have to watch them with the lights on or I won't watch at all. lol

I'm one of those people who likes to scare themselves silly most of the time just because it's fun to do so a lot of the time I will watch horror movies in the dark when I'm alone. There are a few movies however that scare me silly no matter what time of day it is and if it's nigh time, I will always have the light on. The first one is Stephen Kings IT. I dn't know why but that movie just makes me want to jump a mile whenever it's on TV but i still watch it anyway lol. The other ones that scare me are the poltergeist series and the Amityville ones. There's just something about those sets that make me want to screech like a little girl whenever I watch them lol. My hubby sys that i'm not allowed to watch them on my own any more because he's sick of hearing my little squeaks whenever I do. He doesn't like horror movies so I can see why strange noises from me would be annoying but still, I'll keep on watching them anyways lol.
