The rubbish means, gabage, litter, dirt, junk and many more. If you use it in environmental manner like if you tell someone to take the rubbish out, burn the rubbish it is ok. But don't use it on someone, it is a swear word like any other, same as b**ch....if you tell some to give the b**ch food and you are refering to a female dog it wont offend but if you call someone a b**ch then it will be offending. So my friend save yourself by not mutering that word in formal places or even hear in the forums.

Kwenge, I have never ever hear of "rubbish" being taken as a swear word. In common usage here in the US it is an often used word and in the context given, there was nothing wrong with that use whatsoever. Whoever took offense is confused. There is nothing at all wrong with what Aaidjs said.

Hallo dear,
It is now that i have seen the context in which u used the word rubbish, and i really dont see a reasin why people were complaining. You used it the right way as i see. Me I thought maybe you were urguing with someone then you called him rubbish! Oh my God, people here are sometimes very funny. Am sorry for not understanding your discussion.
I did not mean that the word b**ch is the same as rubbish, it was just an example, please let no person misquote me.
If rubbish was a bad word the it could have been sensored by mylot administration like it does to other word.
Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Wow! That sounds pretty extreme but I guess it depends on the context in which you used the word. And also what you were referring to as rubbish. It might be a topic which they hold closely to heart that call for such negavities. Cheer up, do not dwell over it.

It does appear that the reaction was abit extreme and uncalled for. I do not see anything wrong with your comment. Hmm.. then again, it is just my personal opinion. :-) Once again, do not let it dampen your spirits.

Hello dear friend. It is ok when we say "rubbish" instead of "garbage". In this sense, they are of the same meaning. The only difference is that the former is British English and the latter is American English. But sometimes if we say,"That's rubbish" instead of "That's nonsense" in oral English. But of course, it is always better not to use it in any forum, as it will be considered to be impolite and offensive. It is ok to be used among friends or acquaintances. Ok, I think that my explanation to the word "rubbish" makes sense. Thanks for your discussion and happy posting, my dear friend.

Well it depends on the country I guess. I don't find it offensive. I find other words much more offensive. Even some ideas. I'm sorry if this gave you some trouble but at least you are learning something Silvana in regards to language and cultures. I too should learn a bit with a few ideas of mine (even though I've got some scars backing me up).

Words have meaning only in senteces. I don't see anything wrong using the word RUBBISH. Why won't you say: "I took the rubish out" or "I threw the rubish away" if you need to communicate. Did they say it was because of this word that you've got neggative rating?
