Tried Starbucks Again and Still Confused

I went to Starbucks today, and ordered a double chocolate chip something and the woman asked if I knew that was a cold drink and I said no. It's cold enough, I don't want a cold drink.
I looked at the menu trying to find something I knew and finally asked if there was a hot vanilla coffee. She said they can add vanilla syrup and that's what I got.
I know why do I keep going to Starbucks if it gets me confused. My co-workers love it, and I like a challenge. I'll get it one of these times.

i love starbucks! i hope that one of these times you're able to get something you like that will get you into loving it as well. it's expensive, yeah..but so good. i like going there in the warm months though because they do have a lot of really good cold and iced drinks. :]

well it sometimes depends on the store..some stores have drinks that others don't - at least i've come acrossed that. however, if you like vanilla you could always go with a classic cappuchino. i also know they have vanilla lattes that you might enjoy.

You should take time and read their menu. The espresso/cappuccino side is all hot drink whereas anything under the Frappuccino side is all cold drinks. If you go in one day when they are not super busy ask one of the employees - or someone in line - for help. Any of their hot drinks you can have made cold, but not all of the cold drink you can get made hot.
If you like vanilla drinks try the non-fat vanilla latte or the caramel macchiato. Both are hot drinks, the macchitao is stronger than the latte. Make sure they are stirred well or they don't taste right. If you like green tea, there is a hot green tea latte.

I'm not a hot coffee drinker, but I do like a bit of iced Columbian/arabic in a milk-based dessert drink with ice cream and chocolate. Starbucks doesn't know how to make that one, but there is a chain called Caffino that makes is so good! At almost $5 a serving, though, that is one pricey sugar high! It is so big that hubby and I cannot even finish one when we split it.
So I buy Victorian House liquid concentrate and keep it on hand for making a similar drink myself at home, where I can use less sugar and get serious about the portion control. Hubby occasionally likes a cup of hot coffee, so this liquid concentrate keeps him happy too. We've tried a few other concentrates with less than stellar results. This one is good!

I'm happy to say that I don't drink coffee and have never been in a Starbucks. The reason I'm happy to say it is that if I were you I'd probably still be in there trying to make up my mind!
I'll take green tea, please, or water with a twist of lemon, and have my double chocolate chips in a cookie!

Those places can be confusing. I like the coffee at The Second Cup, and the menu is clear too. Everyone knows what's hot, and everyone knows what's cold. Now I'm back in Arizona, and I miss that place already!!!

when I go to starbucks I either order a latte, or a chai. that's tea with milk. it's quite sweet, but I like it. a little spicey too.
i think your double chocolate chip drink was a frappacino. which is an ice-blended drink.
i think starbucks overcharges. totally too expensive. i only drink it when all my friends want to go there.

Pch! I can't stand Starshmucks. Its terrible and I'd not want to deal with them.
Don't mistake me, I'm glad you, your co-workers and others are getting it and enjoying it (I guess?). Maybe I'll try the place again to see what its like.

I am not a huge Starbucks fan. I think that the smaller cafes usually have better coffee. However, I worked at Starbucks. You haven't been to a good one if they haven't helped you find something yet! I figured I would throw on a quick coffee guide and give you some suggestions!
Okay, the Double Chocolate Chip something was a frappaccino. This only exists at Starbucks (they made the name up themselves). This kind is yummy, but actually has no coffee in it. There are two kinds of Frappaccinos (though all of them are made with ice). One type is a coffee based kind (which comes in a low fat version) and the other is a cream based kind which is great for those who don't like coffee, but want to indulge in Starbucks. Both types come in a variety of yummy flavors, blended with either the coffee or the cream mix, and ice, then topped with whipped cream, some also have caramel or chocolate drizzle.
Next you have brewed coffee. Which you can add a flavored syrup to, like you did. Or you can take it and add cream, milk, half and half, or a few different sugar types at the condiment table.
Then there are espresso drinks. Most people don't like espresso by itself since it is a very strong coffee. However it is excellent in drinks with steamed milk. The first of these is a latte. If you like flavored or sweetened drinks you can pick out a flavor, then they pour espresso over the syrup, and then add steamed milk almost to the top, then a dollop of foam. It is one of the mildest drinks, because it is mostly steamed milk. Next is a cappuccino which is the flavor of your choice, espresso, steamed milk to about 2/3 or 3/4 of the way and then topped with lots of foam. It is stronger then the latte because it doesn't have as much milk.
Variations. A mocha is a chocolate latte topped with whipped cream and chocolate syrup. It doesn't taste as much like coffee because it is rather sweet. You can also get a white chocolate variety at Starbucks or you can add caramel syrup in it as well! There is also a caramel machiato (not sure how they spell it), that can only be had at Starbucks). This is what I would have recommended to you if you like coffee and vanilla. It has vanilla syrup, steamed milk, foam, espresso, and then caramel drizzle. It is stronger then the latte because the espresso is on top of the foam. It is really good and has that vanilla syrup in it.
If you don't really like coffee I suggest starting with a mocha, caramel mocha, or another hot drink. They do a great hot caramel apple cider this time a year! And there is hot chocolate.
Well good luck from your friendly ex-Starbucks barista.
