We have a cat that is about 7 or 8 years old. The other day I noticed he had pulled out a bunch of his fur. I know some animals and birds do this because of lonelyiness and stress. I have never seen a cat do this before. I know if they have something stuck in their fur they will, but he has nothing in his fur as I help him by brushing him. He was just sitting there and big clumps of fur was laying all over the place. I don't have the money right now for a vet, but if no solutions are found I will find the money some how. But in the meantime if any one can help I would truly be gratfull.

I have a thirteen year old cat that scratches her neck open on a daily bases. I have taken her to the vet so many times for it, but I have yet to have her stop. She temperally will stop but always ends up doing it again. I have gone through so many years of this that I have stopped doing anything it is like a lost cause and the vet can never find a reason for it,she would be o.k. if I kept a cone on her head all her life but I can't do that do her. Good luck with yous I am at the end of my rope.

About five years ago, when my cat was 2 years old, he licked off almost all his hair. He had this "mohawk" down his back (the only hair he couldn't reach). It all grew back and he's never done it since but it was frightening to look at. We thought maybe he had an allergic reaction to something.

My mother has a cat that does this as well.. but its never enough fur that he has any bald spots. he's just a long haired cat and he will yank out his fur and leave it all around the house! I have no idea why he does it. but your not alone in the kitty hair pulling world!

Cats groom themselves often and if we do it for them often then they will stop. Then they will pull their fur out but it sounds like he needs a hair cut.
