As some ppl on here know, I didn't get to see my Dad for like 22 years and then earlier this year I got to see him and my Stepmom for the first time since I was 17. My Dad had changed alot but I'd recognise him anywhere and my Stepmom looked almost the same as I remembered. I also have a Stepbrother and Stepsister that live up by my Dad that I haven't seen since I was 17. Today I got a picture of my sister and I was stunned at how much she'd changed.
In the pictures below, I'm in the top two boxes at ages 21 and 37 and my sister is in the bottom two boxes at 18 and 32. I think she's still a beautiful girl but she sure looks different...I don't think I'd have recognised her if I'd bumped into her on the street.
So, are you ever surprised by how much someone has changed when you haven't seen them in a long time? Do you expect them to look the same after a long time just b/c that's how you've always pictured them?
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Sometimes people change when you are looking too.
Kids, for instance, change so fast because they just grow up so fast. One minute you look at them and they're barely walking and the next they are like reciting shakespeare. ha ha ok maybe not that excessive but still.
Plus... actions can change looks, in my opinion. So someone can turn ugly simply by their ugly actions.
I haven't seen anyone I hadn't seen in a long time, so I can't really relate to that one though.

reading your post reminded me of a song, I think it was written by the Sesame Street character (man) Bob. It kind of tugs at a mama's heart strings...
Where are you going my little one, little one
Where are you going my baby my own
Turn around and you’re two
Turn around and you’re four
Turn around and you’re a young girl
Going out of the door
Turn around
Turn around
Turn around and you’re a young girl
Going out of the door
Where are you going my little one, little one
Little drindls and petticoats, where are you now
Turn around and you’re tiny
Turn around and you’re grown
Turn around and you’re a young wife
With babes of your own
Turn around
Turn around
Turn around and you’re a young wife
With babes of your own
Turn around
Turn around
Turn around and you’re a young wife

With babes of your own

Wow, yeah I can see what you mean about your sister. I guess we all age and change as time goes on. Sometimes you don't realize you have gray hair until you see it in a picture. Trust me I know. LOL. I saw my uncle after several years and he looked so different. My aunt looked pretty much the same, but his hair had gone all gray and he looked shorter. But I did recognize him, can't miss the family features lol!

I've found nieces and nephews who have grown up and matured rather strange. Yes, I'd recognise them but only if given a real opportunity to look. It's their personalities I find intriguing, finding out the sort of adults and for some, what kind of parents they've become.
Thinking about this shows me how much I don't understand or know my own daughters. My elder daughter came for a visit recently and I was quite shocked by her hardness.

This is very true. In watching my nieces and nephews grow up practically right under my nose, I am still shocked every time I see them. The people in my family are very tall and curvy. So we tend to look grown way before I time. I hate that they seem to be growing up so fast. I guess I am just afraid that they will get married and move away and I will never see them again.

To me its you who has changed and not here as much. I think you both look great.
People do not recognize me because I have lost 100lbs and have cut and dyed my hair. People do not see me until I talk and they recognize my voice.

Yes sometimes people really change I think it is the life style the choose to live.Ther eare some girls I went to school with that I would like to see what changes they have made Its been 50 years since I seen them I would probably never reaconize them on the street lol
My face has changed alot since operation seems to me like I have more wrinkles than I did 3 months ago.
So changes are made with my life style so thats what I think happens to others when their looks change so drmatic.

People do seem to change a lot when you don't see them for a long time. I wouldn't have recognized your sister either because she did change a lot. Everytime someone in my family that hasn't seen us in a while sees us then they talk about how big my son has gotten. Kids do change really fast so I understand what people mean when they talk about how much he's changed when they see him.

It is always interesting to see the changes of people through the years. It also seems to be more obvious when we have not seen them for a while. We saw our nephew graduate from college this weekend. We had not seen him in a couple of years and boy had he changed into a man. Then we saw his little boy who looks just like he did when he was little. I remember seeing my cousin on my dad's side several years ago, I almost didnt know who he was.

oh boy do I get surprised... even when I do not see them but realize they are now WHAT AGE? those little kids I baby sat when I was a teen - now in their late 20s, all grown up.
I've never in lived close to extended family - my father being career military as well my husband and it always surprised me to see my cousins or other relatives, how much they changed.
we do tend to think of them in our minds with the image they were when last we saw each other..

Oh yes, this happens especially with children. My sister had eight kids when she got divorced and because of the situation, I didn't get to see my nieces or nephews for about 5 years. The one niece changed dramatically, she was in her early twenties and pregnant and even then, she kept her very skinny looks. She wore a size 1. Then her little sister, who was about 4, skinny, long brown curly hair just like her older sister, but still a little different.
Well, when I saw them years later, the older one, dyed and cut her hair and gained weight, no way would I have known she was even related to me. Then her younger sister, it was like she took her older sisters look, it was like I was seeing my older niece in my younger niece. And of course the others also changed, but these 2 nieces, changed a lot.

Hi,yes i am surprised but figure after all this time they must of changed some how but for others its a big change like gaining weight or loosing weight. When i think of someone from the past i only think of what their face looked like, not what they looked like

People change appearences quickly but, they still always look the same in a way. My boys were 10 and 14 when we adopted them. After living the good life here on our little farm they have both lost tons of weight and have grown much taller. They are 12 and 16 now and about 40 pounds lighter and 2 inches taller. The thing that has changed the most about them is their faces. When we first got them they went around with scared looks on their little faces. Now they have these great big award winning smiles.

well everything changes with time that is fact but however atleast in matter of beauty now a days people are more cautious and they try every new products and treatments available in market to look young.
but definitely everybody changes some or more as per age.well you expect the same as you always pictured them like that only but once they come in front of you you ld not find a big difference except if they changed in their size :)

Because of a lot of deaths in our family we are going through lots of pictures. My brother is one I would not recognize, if he looked like he used to, and heavens, I saw a picture of me from 27 years ago, and I was hard to recognize for myself. On the other hand, I heard from a cousin that I had not seen in 30 years, and her picture looks just the same as always. Of course it was from a formal occasion, and I am accustomed to mostly seeing her in a high maintenance persona. She could have been a model. I am a more relaxed person now, and more easy going, less dressy and formal and prissy, so I look a lot different. I would like to be somewhere in between the "then" and the "now".I would describe myself as frumpy now. My dad has certainly changed, but I know that is because of aging.

well she doesn't wear glasses anymore and different hair style too. you still look the way you were 21 though. maybe if you change hairstyle and wear contacts you may look different.
In school in my homeland there was this girl really pretty and famous among boys because she is rich and could afford nice dresses. Then over here I accidentally saw her, and oh boy she was easily overlooked, far from pretty and the way she dressed looked outdated. And it's strange because people here don't cling to fashion like in big cities, so how in the world she looked like that among people here, I have no slightest idea. So no I don't expect people to look the same over the years.

Oh, yes, I was shocked when I went to my 40th high school reunion, at how some of my classmates had changed, and then some didn't look like they changed at all! Some of them I hadn't seen for 40yrs, I almost cried!!!
