Leviticus 8:12 clearly states that homosexuality is an abomonation. End of discussion. HOWEVER, I will not be going down alone. I need the advice of all the christians and catholics on MyLot regarding some of the other specific laws and how to follow them: I would like to sell my daughter into slavery as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her? When I burn a bull on the alter as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the lord - Lev 1:9. The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is displeasing to them. Should I smite them? I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev 15:19 - 24. The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense. Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians? I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 CLEARLY states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself? A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomonation - Lev 11:10, it is a lesser abomonation than homosexuality. I dont agree. Can you settle this? Lev 21:20 states that I may not approach the alter of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room there? Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die? I know from Lev 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves? My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blasheme alot. Is it really necessary that we go through all the trouble of getting the whole twon together to stone them? - Lev 24:10 - 16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their inlaws? (Lev. 20:14) And clarification anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated. God bless, Tee

Instead of asking for mans opinion, have you asked G♥d what He thinks?

I did actually ask him, and I thought I heard him say something about a practical joke. But that could have been indigestion. I had a bean burito for lunch and the sour cream did taste kind of off.

Well G♥d doesn't have an answering machine, just because He doesn't answer right away, doesn't mean he didn't hear. Take time and be serious, if you want the truth, then ask and you will get the truth, but don't expect an outright answer like man gives you...

Yes, you are going to Hell. Sorry. But, as you rightly point out since the rules are so encompassing, we are all going to Hell. Now, here's the thing. The Bible was written with a very simple twist, a lock against understanding. The key was also given. Ready? Ok, we ARE all going to Hell. All. And, what did Jesus teach? "Love thy neighbor." We are all going to get to be neighbors in the afterlife. Won't that be fun? You see, God's plan is that we will all get to be with each other, in one place, at one time. And there, if we want things to not be crappy, we will have to practice good neighborship. Personally I am overjoyed that my gay friends will be going to Hell with me. That way I will not lose the benefit of their cheery dispositions (generally) and excellent self grooming/care tips. ;-) Cheers!PS - See you in Hell.

Maybe Hell isnt a bad place? Maybe its like a spa where we all sit around in bathrobes and get massages and manicures and sip little drinks with umbrellas. Maybe the church knows this so they tell everyone its bad so there is more room for them. I will say one thing. I can only HOPE I get my neighbors next to me in hell. She is a very sweet lady and I love her dearly. Hopefully Hell really is warm so I wont have to shovel her driveway anymore. Not that I mind, of course.

I cant take all the credit, Cyntrow showed this to me in another discussion and I just had to post it because it bears repeating. I find it funny (but not surpriseing) that none of my "adversaries", the bible thumpers, can come up with any retort. By the way, is that you in your icon picture? It looks like yoga to me, and my boyfriend is very into all that eastern thought stuff. He tries to get me to do it with him but I usually end up laughing and ruining the mood. Not that I dont respect it, I really do, I just like to make him laugh while hes trying to inhale his ohms.

But in judging gays, they always refer to leviticus. So it's ok to ditch the rest of the Levitical laws but not the ones that may or may not pertain to gay men. How's that for hypocracy.

"When I burn a bull on the alter as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the lord - Lev 1:9. The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is displeasing to them. Should I smite them? " Hi. This is as far as I've gotten in your discussion so far... It just hit close to home for me because I remember reading that passage once and thinking...wtf? I was born Catholic - baptised, first comunion, did not do confirmation. I didn't "learn" the bible. We didn't go to church every Sunday. There are times that I feel at home in the Catholic church, but I don't agree with everything that it teaches. I'm not sure what that makes me in the eyes of the Church. I am glad I came across your post though, and I will go back to read the rest of it and I am curious to see what the other responses to this will be.

I have to admit, I'm curious about the challenges of being gay. When do they put you on the spot? In the real world (as opposed to online)? Do people just come up to you and tell you that you shouldn't be gay, and why? The rudeness of people just blows me away sometimes. People do that to other..hmmm minorities as well... can't think of a better word right now, but I mentioned up above..sorry i'm posting in two different places on this discussion now. I did that once before, it gets kind of crazy. but it just amazes me that people think they have the right to tell other people how they should live their lives.

Ever since I was in 9th grade it was common knowledge that I was gay, and a common occurance to be targeted for it. I didnt come out of the closet on my own. I told who I thought was a friend of mine, and she told EVERYONE. But that was a long time ago, and the challenges I have faced since then have dimishied the initial betrayal. Over the years its gotten easier, and kind of second nature to block it out. I have also learned alot about peoples personalities, and I'm usually able to detect before hand if someone might have a problem with my lifestyle so I can be mindfull to not make it an issue. Trials? Every day. And I'm not saying that other minorities dont face them... I know they do. As a white man, I feel more comfortable in a room of black people than I would in a room full of white people. Black people I have noticed will be weary of me at first because I come off as a preppy white dude. But as soon as they find out I am gay they treat me like one of the family. Its the most amazing thing and I cant explain it but black men especially, when they find out I'm gay they suddenly relax and treat me like a brother. It's like we have a common wound, inflicted by the same group. The black community is the gay communities strongest ally. They have been down that road of oppression, and generations of humiliation and shame. They have fought the battle that gays are fighting now and they understand what we are going through.... even if we cant possibly understand what they have been through. As for daily trials... oh lets see I could give a couple examples. My boyfriend and I were denied an apartment. The landlord didnt say outright that we cant have it because we are gay but when we called back to tell him we wanted it he said it was already taken. We drove by a couple weeks later and there was still a for rent sign in the window. My boyfriend Brian actually had to cut off communication with his entire family because of the abuse. His mother was the worst. She actually left his a voicmail a few months ago telling him that she was dying because hes living with another guy. I know it sounds absurd... imagine what he thought when he heard that. She was serious too - she really believes that she is is going to die because he is gay. His grandfather called him a failure and said his father obviously didnt discipline him right when he was a child. I mean the list goes on. But at the end of the day we try to focus on the love we share and the love my family gives to us. They have welcomed Brian into the family and a gathering wouldnt be the same without him. I really am fortunate to have such a great support network. But not everyone is that lucky. I think about all the kids and teens who kill themselves, or drop out of school or are homeless... all because of this ignorance and hatred for gays. It's not right... and they need to know there are people out there who know what they are going through, and care.

The pretext of your question is wrong and argumenitive. You are state anciant cival laws and observances that are no longer applical under the new testament as we ar not under the law, and becouse we are not B.C Jews. You seem to want to find blaim in God instead of man. The laws stated are not the laws of God but rather the laws of Moses, Just as we have laws today governing us. These laws have no wieght over us. They are laws for the isreiltes 4000 years ago, The only laws from God as it would be are the ten commandments. becouse these are spritul laws that help society in whole. Your anger about homsexuals going to hell is also misplaced. Although God may concider it a sin, so is lieing, stealing and adultery. No one will go to hell becouse they are a Homesexual. They will go to hell as it were (hell is not what is tought in todays religions) would be becouse they did not except the pardon and comutation. As for the reast of the B.S. you try to site to be inflamitory, what is it with you? What are you so angry about that you have to quote cival jewish law thats over 4000 years old?

You missed the point entirely. Levitical law does NOT apply to us. Absolutely correct, but in condemning the homosexual the bible thumper will cling tightly to Leviticus 18 and 20, while eating a ham sandwich I might add. And for the record, God does not believe that homosexuality is a sin. Only man thinks that.

I appologize for missing your point, it is always easy for some hate group to take a few scriptures and twist them to fit their agenda like the anti homsexual "christains". We all have some sin in our lives why some want to focus on other peoples lives instead of cleaning up and worring about their own lives I don't know. At one tim Gahnde read the bible and he belived, he went to a missionary church in africa to be baptised. When he got there he was turned away becouse he was a "black man". He later sateted "I would have been a christian if I would have never met one." Thank about this, If he would have become a christian and went back to India to start his movment what would India be like today? Sorry I missed understood your post, it seemed like an atack on all of Christianity useing old Judaic law. But now I understand that you were just pointing out why do they not live under the other laws that they want to quote from, peace brother.

This is what *I* believe to be true: 1. The old testament was before Jesus Christ. 2. The old testament was full of laws and consequences. 3. The new testament is after Jesus Christ. 4. The new testament is what we are to follow as all we have to do is believe in Jesus Christ, repent, and accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. 5. God knows our hearts and our intentions - He knows if we're serious or just bullsh*tin' Him and there ain't no bs'ng the Big Man!!! I think that the bible is to be used as a guide to live. Show respect, have boundaries, something to believe in... I, as a Christian, don't feel that every single word, period, comma, question mark, needs to be taken literal. Have a personal relationship with Christ and He'll take care of the rest! He sure is taking care of me sins and all!

Hi 112aTee, Thank you for starting this discussion, as it is something that I have also been wondering about. I too have been getting complaints from my neighbours. Since I live in Canada, I will check out why you can't own Canadians, it seems like a double standard to me. Don't Canadians read the Bible? There are several politicians in Ottawa that you can have for the asking. We haven't had a good bonfire in years though witches abound. We definitely need to read the Bible more in this country. Perhaps you can send us a few of your more vocal evangelists, ( on loan of course, we wouldn't dream of taking them from you.) I'm sure some people will be offended, but I truly enjoy your sense of humour. Thank you for this most refreshing post. Blessings.

So it's okay for you to believe what you want about God and what you think he wants from you, and it's okay for you to put our bible down, twist scripture to make fun of it and call it hypocritical. But it's not okay for us to interpret our bible the way we feel is right if we think that being gay is wrong?

My post is directed at those who feel the bible is the end all, be all, absolute authority with no room for discussion. If you are not one of these people then you have taken this topic too personaly and that was not the intent. You obviously have a good grasp on yourself and your beliefs, and at the end of the day thats really all that matters - for anyone. But you cant imagine the fight I have fought over the years... and continue to fight every day. I'm not saying that People walk up to me and call me a sinner every day (it has happened, though, with some amount of frequency), but the judgment is still there... the obstacles are still there. I say you cant imagine because you really cant and thats not your fault. You arent gay. But my whole life people have hit me over the head with this book... telling me thier version of how God sees my life. Sue me, if I want to turn the tables on them for once, nd hold up a mirror. You are right, acording to the bible everyone is a sinner. This discussion was a way to point that out. So you actually, understand, all unknowing. I meant no offense to yu as a person, but if this discussion hit a personal chord for you, I invite you to ask yourself why that is. Because I dont have that answer.

You take the hit for being gay, I take the hit for being christian. A few of the gay men I have worked with over the last 20 years would find out I am a christian and automatically be on the attack, constantly telling me why the bible was wrong or why they thought I was a fool for believing in God to begin with. I am just as tired of being referred to as hateful, judgemental, hypocritical and so on and so on...Everyone has their cross to bear. I really did not intend for my original post to come across the way it did, I was in a bit of a hurry. My intent was just to point out that we don't like being lumped into a big group and judged either.

15 Jan 08
Okay, re-reading my response, I realize it didn't come out as I intended. It is okay for you to believe what you want about God, but don't call me hypocritical for what I believe about God and the bible. Then it becomes you who are judging me. And no you are not twisting the wording of the scripture, but you are using scripture to call us hypocrits. Isn't that your complaint? That people use scripture to against you? I believe that the law is there to show us that no one can keep it, therfore no one can get to heaven without accepting Jesus as their savior. If you'll read my post below you will see a little more detail on that. And no, I can't tell you why believing being gay is a sin without my bible. That is where my belief system comes from and it is how I interpret it. But I believe homosexuality is a sin the same way I think my smoking is a sin. It will not send you to hell, a relationship with Jesus Christ is our salvation, and we can only change the things that He convicts our hearts of. I have many gay friends (I'm a hairstylist and there seems to be a lot of gay men in the business), I don't condemn them or even tell them of my beliefs unless they ask. I have a very close friend who is a gay christian, and he is always on me about how smoking is a sin (thats why I keep refering to it). We are able to discuss our beliefs with eachother without any hatred or calling eachother hypocrites. I agree with you that there are many christians who attack gays and feel the need to tell them they are going to hell, and yes that is hypocritical because we ALL have sin in our lives (pot calling the kettle black kinda thing). But for you to attack my beliefs is basically the same thing. All I can say is don't lower yourself to the same level.

Tee, My understanding of the Bible, and I am a Protestant, is that it was written by humans and therefore is inherently flawed. That can be seen in the distinct differences between the preaching of the Old Testament and the New Testament. While Leviticus states many things, a lot of these things have been overturned by the New Testament when Jesus came to save the world from sin. As I can see when you read Leviticus, you found many interesting scriptures, many of which most Pastors would say is simply something that you do not have to follow or isn't sinful in the context of our lives and the New Testament. I'm heavily involved in my church, and I've come out to my pastor, and I've received only positive responses that do not condemn homosexuality, but that interpret the Bible and God as loving. God loves you, and he made you the person you are. Even if it were a sin, every person on this earth is sinful, and Jesus came to save us from these sins! All in all, I strongly believe as a Christian that homosexuality is not sinful. Leviticus is simply flawed. - Matthew

The law is nothing but works, and works won't get you to heaven. I believe the law is there to show us that none of us can make it to heaven without Jesus, no one can keep all the laws. Jesus came to show us a better way (a better way then the law). All He asked of us is to follow Him. Seek His will not your own. You can't find a list in the bible that tells you exactly how to live your life because God has a different path for each of us to take. We seek His will, we change the things in our life that He convicts our hearts of, not the things someone next to you in church thinks you should change. And as far as using common sense goes, I refer to Proverbs 3:5 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and Lean not on your own understanding." It's about a personal relationship with God, accepting His will for your life even when it doesn't make sense or goes against our own will. The bible is not flawed, mans understanding of it is because we are awful busy trying to make the bible fit our lives.

Maths887...I'm curious about your view of the bible. While I don't believe being a homosexual can send you to hell since salvation is about a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, I do believe it to be sin (same as my smoking is a sin). Doesn't believing that the bible is inherently flawed, leave it open to picking and choosing which parts you want to believe? Which basically means you are creating an idol that fits your image of what you want God to be. In 2 Timothy 3:16 it says "All scripture is inspired by God..." yes it was written by man but under the guide of His Holy Spirit. If God is in complete control of the everything then I don't believe He would allow His Word to be corrupted by man.

I have trouble creating a personal relationship with God and strictly interpreting the Bible. I have been seeking a personal relationship with my Lord, and with the relationship I have felt and come to the conclusion that some things in the Bible are wrong. If you believe the Bible isn't flawed then every time your Priest sins, I hope he brings a bull without defect to God as an Absolution-Offering. Because that is what the Bible says. Shouldn't he do that then? If you impulsively swear you must bring as your penalty to God for the sin you have committed a female lamb or goat. You should not cut the hair on the sides of your head or trim your beard. You also shouldn't wear clothes woven of two kinds of material. I hope all your clothes are 100% cotton!

Tee, you have made me laugh out loud uncontrollably for the first time in at least a week. Way to go, man ... but I think you should be asking advice of the Sanhedrim. All good Christians should be aware that St Paul expressly stated that these rules do not apply to non-Jews. About Canadians. They may look like Americans and sound somewhat like them (so that nobody else in the world can tell the difference) but they tend to be a wild breed, unsuitable for slavery. They don't, on the whole, make good pets and there is no market for them as slaves, though, I believe that they have a fair demand in various computer and business applications, just as the Scots do here in the UK. They tend to ask for money, though. Mexicans, on the other hand, are relatively docile creatures (though they tend to speak Spanish amongst themselves). They worship a giant Cockroach (or so I am led to believe) about which there is a song with literally thousands of verses. In their belief system, it came to earth as a Model T Ford which was owned by one of their leaders. They seem to be useful, in California, at least, as gardeners, shelf fillers and checkout assistants, where their lack of English is useful, since it is impossible to argue with them. I have heard that they can read bar codes but I don't know how true that is. The shellfish rule really only applies in the Negev desert where any shellfish you find tend to be not very fresh. Clams do not occur in the Sea of Galilee (though giant turtles have been mentioned in an unconfirmed report which states that, in stormy weather, they appear just below the surface, making it possible for certain fishermen to seem to walk on water). Football is OK because they are now all made of plastic. In any case, the exteriors were previously generally made of calf skin, which is kosher so long as you don't drink milk at half time. Incidentally, there were pigs in Gadara at one time but they all went mad and drowned themselves due to the actions of a conjurer whose reputation was not as great then as it is today, due to his performing the ultimate escape/disappearing act. I haven't covered all your points (but then I never intended to!) ... Thanks for the laugh!

If you really want to go to heaven convert from being a homosexual to a hetrosexual. Sure it may take work and time but it can be done. It won't be an easy job and may at first feel like being a lie but you can change your mind if you really apply to it. If you rather stay the way you are that is ok too just ask a priest or somebody if homosexuals can go to heaven.

Gays can't change any more than straights can. Why do people insist that this is possible? There are many groups that preach conversion therapy and not a single one of them can document any case of true changing in attraction. All they have is re-closeted gays. So now they go from being honest about their sexuality to lying about it. Which is really the sin?
