Hi all. My son is 7 months old and he just started saying 'Mama'. Do you think this is early for him to be talking (I do!) Did your kids talk early? Late? What was your child's first real word?

My daughter said, 'dada' at around 7 months and that's when I noticed she actually knew what she was saying. Then, a month later we would go to the grocery store and everyone we passed, she'd say "hi!" It was incredibly cute. Then at 10 months she said "thankyou" and she's now a crazy chatterbox. She's 19 months old and supposed to have at least 10 words. She has over 200! She talks all day and I'm in for it! It's cute, though, not to mention she can actually communicate to me what it is she needs rather than crying or whining for something.

Ok, i might be weird here but i though 7-8 months was about average for a child to chat! Maybe i'm just listening to the wrong people. My daughter's first word was Mum which was a week or so before she turned 6 months (i used to just sit there & say Mumumumumum) & then just after she turned 6 months (a couple of weeks before her 1st Xmas) she discovered Dad. I guess my little one was an early talker too then :) YAY!

My son did talk early. His first word was "Woodo" for our dog, Trixie Woodle. Within a week he was also calling for the other dog and cat. By the time he started walking (which was late, he was 16 months old before he really started going well on his own), he was using complete sentences that were about 50% clear to other people.

Wow, your baby's speaking at 7 months? That's amazing! :) My oldest son's first words were album and mama. This was around 12 months of age. Unfortunately he ended up having Autism and he stopped saying any words shortly after. He is now 10 years old and is speaking more, though his speech is still very limited.

Yes 7 months is extremely early, but be proud of him ;) My son isn't talking yet he's 6 months now. My first word was TANJA, she was our neighbour at the time whom I only saw once a week. My sisters first words were chips and ice (yes really!) My niece was being nice, her first word was mama.

I wish I could tell you about my own babies first words, but for right now I can only share what both my nephew's first words were ;) The oldest one, his first word was "Dow" for dog :D The yonger one's first word was "ball". He is obsessed with baseballs, basketballs, footballs.......he is just a born athlete! He was making basketball hoop shots when he was walking! Usually babies first say "Mama" or "Dada" so my nephews were diefinitely different! :D
