What does the star next to the name mean???

I just got a star with a number next to my name. I noticed a lot of people have this as well. What does it actually mean? Is it some kind of ranking?

Its your Star Rating and the more people hit the + button for your posts and discussions the higher it goes. If people hit - button then it goes down.
Its supposed to mean the quality of your posts and discussions...
...BUT!
It can be abused by people who can't stand real opinions and viewpoints (especially different ones).
