Were you a 60's child that loved the Beatles?

If you were of an age that placed you as a teenager in the 1960's did you go crazy for the Beatles or did your musical tastes follow another path? I loved the Beatles when I first heard them and played my "album" Meet the Beatles, into the ground. I wasn't, however, a screaming fan...I never got to see them so maybe that played as a factor. I recently went to Las Vegas with my husband and while there we went to see the presentation of "Love" by Cirque du Soliel..It was one of the most amazing performances I have ever seen. The music has been digitally enhanced and some of the instruments have been put more in the background so the vocals are more apparent...wow it really is worth the time and money to see if a person is already in the area. If you were a Beatles fan in the 60's, did you have a favorite band member? I remember Paul being the one so many of my girlfriends thought was the cutest...I was more of a Lennon fan..They certainly affected the music scene and left a lasting imprint..How do you feel about their music today? Too weird? Too 60's? Or do you listen to it and enjoy it for it's worth? If you weren't a Beatles fan, who were your favorite 60's bands?

Having been born in only 1966, I wasn't able to be teenage material for the Beatles or Woodstock per sey but appreciated much of the material that Paul and John and especially George recorded during days of protest and political reformation needs. In other words, as I grew into who I am today my guitar still gently weeps . . .

When The Beatles came to Australia I was just a little girl but I loved their music so a friend and i were determined to see them so we went and stood on the road way where they would have to drive through coming from the airport, we stood there in the rain for hours waitin the street was lined both sides with fans waiting for the car to come alonf, the street was two lanes with a tram track in the middle, all of a sudded someone shouted there they are we all turned to where the fella was pointing they drove down the wrong side of the road, all I got to see was the back of someones head through the back window, we were so disappointed I vowed I would no longer be a fan of theres, thank heavens at the same time the Melbourne Music scene was about to erupt, I didn't need The Beatles anymore I liked our own Aussie music, that little did i know would become so important to me in years to come.

I can just see everyone being so disappointed that they missed the car and their chance to see the famous band...but you are right...every country had it's music scene and that is what I love about music...it is so diverse and has such impacts on people both at home and across many countries..I appreciate your candid response...and I'm happy that your music was so important to you in your life!

I also fell victim to "Beatlemania," rx4life, and couldn't get enough of them. They were just so very different-and cute. I still remember the lyrics to all the early songs. Ringo was always my favorite. There's just something about a drummer, LOL. I never could get into their later music, it just wasn't my style. They really had a powerful effect on music of the 60s, and I guess for some the 70s.

I was definitely a Beatlemaniac in the mid 60s and I still love their music. I was not quite 13 when they first appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show and was already so smitten with them that I sat in front of our B&W TV taking pictures of the screen... in between squeals of delight of course! I didn't get to see them live until 1965 when I went quite nuts at Shea Stadium. My two cousins and I made signs.. like there was any chance they would see them that far away LOL... we could barely see THEM! But I screamed myself hoarse and almost passed out from the excitement of just breathing the same air as my heroes and being surrounded by so many people who felt the same way about them. I guess it was a kind of mass hysteria but it was one of the best experiences of my life, I'll never forget it. Paul was my first romantic crush and I would fantasize that John was the big, cool brother I never had. I kind of grew into George... he broadened my musical horizons to include Indian sounds and inspired me to try meditation, which I still practice. And Ringo always seemed the most down to earth and accessible... I think if I had been lucky enough to meet them, he would have been the easiest to talk to. But personalities aside, it was really about the MUSIC! They revolutionized pop/rock, especially after they stopped touring and focused on studio work. Every album was groundbreaking. There will never be another group like them.

I was also a Beatles fan, I like their music because it is not loud, the lyrics are very meaningful and somehow poetic in a way. Whenever their songs are made into a movie soundtrack, it is more appealing to me. Oh, I really loved it. I was also influence by my elder brother who plays guitar and listen to their music. I don't have a favorite band but I like only selected songs from other bands like Styx, Seals and Crofts, Simon and Garfunkel etc.... So you see almost the music I like are from the 60s to 70s. I'm in my 50s, so its my kind of music.

I wasn't a teenager until the late 60's but I still liked the Beatles. I still like the Beatles but I like the music that they made when they had matured a little more. I listened to all kind of music when I was a kid, from Rock an Roll to Classical to Big Band. I liked it all and I still do.

I have varied tastes in music also...I'm not a huge Rap fan..but listen to some...I can't really put a label on my musical tastes..but I still enjoy the Beatles and seeing the "Love" production in Vegas was astounding..those are extremely talented performers and the music being reworked to bring more vocals forward was like listening to even more amazing Beatle compositions...

I just signed up with MyLot last night and think I posted in the wrong place because my comment isn't registering as a comment on my "discussions you have commented on" section. I'm going to post again here. Sorry I don't know how to delete the other one. Is it possible? Anyroad...

How great that you got to see them...you are right..there will never be another group like them... they revolutionized the musical world as it was known...and I don't see that happening again...I think alot of us "grew into George"..and many have stayed with the meditation. Nice to have you here at myLot..it is an interesting and fun place..you will be a welcome addition I'm sure!! :)

I was not born on 60's but I like the Beatles. The music of the Beatles is great, I have a lot of their greatest hits and albums. Maybe if I was a teenager during the 60's I would like to listen theyr music, I think I could buy each their album. They are the best band.

I was a big Beatles fan. I'm one of them that thought Paul was dreamy.
I still listen to the Beatles, but prefer to listen to Paul's solo music. My music collection does have several albums.

Oh yes, I was a teenager of the 60's, and loved the Beatles; they were my favourite band at the time. I am one of the millions that fell in love with Paul! Their music was so different and alive, and I think they set the scene for the future. In my view, there has never been a group like them, or that could match them.
I was brought up in the UK, but unfortunately, never got to see them live - my mother wouldn't let me go to see them!
My favourite songs were John singing "Imagine", "Give Peace a Chance" and "Beautiful Boy", and I still play their music.

We share some of the favorites!!! I loved John singing "Imagine"...I also feel there has never been a band like them...not to the extent that they shaped music and have endured throughout time ( so have we!!!LOL)...nice to hear from you, Abbey19....and you should try to see the presentation of Cirque du Soliel if they ever come to your town...it is absolutely amazing...especially if you are/were a fan of the FAB 4...

I was a teenager just a bit after that. WE still enjoyed the beatles but it wasn't exactly the same thing. However I did sing some beatles songs at a club when I was a teenager. It was a joke after my friends played and then they asked me to do it regularly for their sixties weekends.
MY tastes in music are very eclectic and I still enjoy listening to some of the beatles songs but like you I was never exactly a complete fan :)
SInce I am just a bit after the sixties, my favorites at that time were more from the seventies :)

I was just out running an errand and the satelite radio has a Beatles station...I was listening to the music and thinking how long I have been blessed to have been hearing them!
My husband was lucky enough to have seen them when they came to Seattle in the 60's...he says he couldn't really hear them for all the screaming girls!!!
