Trojan viruses found in my computer. I was protected by firewall and many programs like zone alarm, but it didn't help.
I reinstalled all programs. Hope it will work better.
For those who don't know how Trojan is working, read this article:

In Windows XP, I lock the kernel. Here's how: http://invincible-windows.blogspot.com/
In Vista, I simply recommend McAfee SecurityCenter special edition from AOL: http://safety.aol.com/isc/index.adp?

The best solution is to get a good anti-virus software. I am using ZoneAlarm and not like what happened to you, I've been satisfied with how it works because I've been protected since I installed it. I set my security levels to maximum which helped me a lot to prevent these malicious softwares from entering my PC.

Ok, tell me this is not relavent, but this is one of the reasons that I want to a Mac, there are very few Trojan horses or viruses written for it.
My system is nearly 3 years old and not a problem (I may eat my words in the future).

I must confess, I know what a Trojan Horse is, but I do literally nothing. I am a Mac user, and until recently, there was nothing out there to threaten us. But I fear that our time of security is coming to an end.
But the problem with all of the firewalls and virus checkers is that they can only protect what they know about. If you were on the leading edge of a new virus, the virus checkers don't detect it because the code has not been written yet to allow them to detect and stop it.
Don't download a lot of stuff, when I ran windows, I did not run anything until it sat in my mail for a few days or I saw that it had been forwarded many times. If I was the first person on a list, or I got a card that I was not expecting it went unread. If no notice of a new virus came about then I would run it.
And never, ever download those toolbars from all of those companies that give free things, those things can do all kinds of evilness. Read those notices before you sign up for things.

I'm glad to know some Mac users are aware that there are threats targeting their platform now. As far as I know, all malware that exist for OS-X, both In the Wild and Proof of Concept, still require user intervention to install. I haven't used a Mac in years, but although experts say it's less inherently secure than Windows Vista, I am still of the understanding that it is more secure than Windows XP or earlier. But it wouldn't help to be prepared. Here is a good collection of security freeware for Windows, Linux, and the Mac: http://www.itsecurity.com/features/103-free-security-apps-041607/
Hope this helps!

You can do several things in order to protect your computer from a trojan virus. The first such thing is trying to stay away from sites which the user in unfamiliar with. This will help to prevent spyware and adware from hopping onto your computer, thus making it easy for viruses to enter. Another thing which the user can do is be sure to have Microsoft Windows Defender on their system. This is an excellent program that can prevent trojans and such from coming onto your computer. One final thing that one can do in order to prevent viruses from hopping onto your computer is to have System Mechanics on their system. This is an all around program which is good. If you have any other questions- feel free to message me.

I have several programs on my pc, also from the provider. They notify me for updates and I let them update before start scanning and cleaning. I think having one or two is not enough. you also have to scan and defragment regularly if you go online daily.

Most of the time, my Free AVG is keeping my home PC away from troubles. However, couple of times the Trojans appeared. It is a complicated and time-consuming service task to clean them. The longest term I needed to clean my office PC from especially "smart" Trojan was three days. Usually, I start from simple tasks, like cleaning everything unnecessary, including Temporary files, Internet cash, etc. After that, I run one anti-Trojan software after another (I have about 10 portable applications). There no software, that can catch everything, so every one is taking some share of the bad load. In my office computer, I mentioned above, all problems I had, did not help. I had to go for deep search of additional resources. The program Adaware Away helped to discover the enemy. So, overall service task took about 12 business hours. But... it was done!

Hi! Can you please suggest some good free software that can remove trojans? My Norton antivirus has been alerting me to a trojan in the Windows System folder for a few days now but the file cannot be accessed or deleted. I don't know anymore what to do and I can't afford to have my hard drive reformatted at the moment because I am working on several projects with numerous files currently stored in the hard drive. Thanks in advance!

Windows OS might be more vulnerable to the virus and Trojan infection than Mac, but the amount of the available programs is much bigger. I am taking the risk for the luxury of choosing my favorite applications from the huge overall amount of avaiable programs. With frequent backups and proactive approach to the PC maintenance the danger is not so significant.

A good Anti virus program should work to protect your computer. I am not sure though, but I'm not having a problem with NOD32 installed in my PC. You can always experiment on every Anti Virus available. My piece of advice is that, clean your system (by re-formating your hard disk)before you install any OS and softwares. Don't connect to the Internet until you have installed your Anti Virus. Make sure your Anti Virus automatically starts during the boot-up session.

The Trojan Horse comes from a legend, where 2 countries were waging war against each other. The leader of one of these countries that nowadays are both part of modern Greece adviced the warriors: "Avoid them even if they give you gifts." They didn't listen and accepted the gift that was a huge horse. At night, soldiers came out of the huge horse and defeated the rival troops while they were asleep. I protect my computer against Trojan horses using Northon, this is the strongest I know and I scan my computer at least once a week.

Antivirus nowadays give adequate safety from trojans. You can try many of the free ones, i have tried them all.Best is Avira Antivir, but thats personal opinion.Nod32 is considered the best commercial firewall, but to me it was just messy, it was very slow and crashed at every single scan. So, last 2 years all i do is check the free ones.Antivir updates every day, is fast enough and good at finding viruses. However, i am not sure if it is the best around for trojans.

since trojan is a virus try to install a good anti virus and update it regularly.i use F-secure anti virus and it can clean your computers with all known viruses unlike the anti viruses that i have used before like avg,norton,nod32,bull guard..etc...they all fail and have loop holes that viruses can use to enter your computer and destroy your files.

Let me tell you this, in my case, I actualy went out looking for trojans just to see which program blocked it.
The only anti-virus program i trust is NOD32
BTW, never work w/ norton, its fake it's only looks, but it has no script.
Btw, look for a way to delete core.sys It's the file that will not allow anti-virus programs able to delete trojans. I know this becuase yesterday I had deleted 4 threats, hijacker, adware, and 2 trojans.
So look via Yahoo search for a way to safely delete core.sys
There are special instructions to do so.

I only follow some simple steps. I used to make sure that my antivirus was up-to-date. The windows firewall should always be turned ON. This really plays an important role for you to be kept safe against this virus.
Of course, we need to scan our machine every once or twice a week.
I also used Mozilla and Opera as my main browser. These two browsers are very safe to use when compared to IE. :-)
