Paradox of our Times

India

I read this in today's newspaper and wanted to share with everybody here on mylot :) We have taller Buildings but shorter tempers, wider roads but narrower viewpoints We spend more, but have less, buy more but enjoy less, We have bigger houses but smaller families more conveniences but less time. We have more degrees but less sense more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much and pray too seldom. We have learned how to make a living, but not a life. We have added years to life not life to years. We have been all the way to the moon and back but have trouble crossing the road to meet our neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We have done larger things, but not better things.... We plan more, but accomplish less. We have learned to rush but not wait. We have more information but we communicate less and less...... And guess who said these profound and beautiful but true words? George Carlin - the comedian

This is so true. we work hard to get more stuff but then don't have time to use it. we have kids but farm them out to be raised because we need more stuff. Isn't it something that something so profound cames from a comedian. Comedians are so much deeper that they appear to be. Red Skeletan's rendition of the pleadge of allegance is so moving like this.

Hello Deebomb ...yes comedians always seem more deeper than normal people maybe because it is that much more harder to make people laugh than make them cry.........i am glad you liked it

Depends on where you are, but yes its all true (especially for stateside). Here go a few more They flock to the suburbs but fear the cities They watch months of TV but barely read They eat junk but complain of having poor health They want more lanes and speed but less safety on the road They want less taxes but more government They think government can solve anything, but don't realize who's paying for it They have so much but blame others for their own personal failures They want lovelives but grossly abuse people along the way They want less pollution but more houses and more cars They listen to the famous and celebrities but won't listen to their doctor or professionals They complain of supression while supressing others They want free speech but only for certain viewpoints They complain of their government but don't know how it works They complain of involvement in the world but forget they are a part of the world They say winning doesn't matter, but have multiple sports and events saying otherwise They traded honor, determination and pride for indecency, apathy and foolishness They want a more educated population but ridicule those seeking education They want better education but concern themselves with sports and other nonsense They hate the police until they've been mugged or robbed They idolize the thugs until they've been robbed by them They want no judgment of people unless they have office and a D or R They say "me too" when it comes to rights and priveledges but really me "me only" They want lower gas prices but don't complain of gas taxes They want more rights but are quick to challenge or remove existing rights They said we the people are equal but in reality some of the people are more equal than others They have several multi million dollar news stations but they don't give anyone news They love their country but refuse to know or see anything going on with it They hate their country but refuse to go anywhere else

True Ano.But what is the solution?Do we have to slow down and revert to the old style of living.Who is going to set an example and set the trend. Will this work out?Aren't we up to our eye balls in this quagmire? What is your opinion Ano?

Hello Bala......i am not sure of the solution but since life is a journey and not a destination if we stop and learn these things .....as long as we are AWARE, i guess we will be alright....just takes a few minutes to pause and think 'where ARE we going'...

So true Ano. A pity that it has been a comedian that had to come up with them and , probably as something to make us laugh. Because there is nothing to laugh in those words, it's actually quite sad and even tragic. Maybe things could be different but this is the path we're on and I'm afraid it won't get any better soon.

In fact these are wise and witty sayings. they're realities of life on earth. Just like the saying we bite more than we can chew. that's what make the world worse for comfortable living. that man is only a comedian but very intelligent.
