How much do you pay for your cell phone? What was the max you've paid?

An oil field worker in western Canada was shocked to see he was charged $85,000 for surfing the Internet on his new mobile phone. He believed his plan allowed him to use the phone to connect with his computer, using it as a modem to download a lot of data, high-definition movies and other bandwidth-hungry applications.
Isn't this insane? Who do you think is at fault in this situation? I usually pay about 12$ a month and have a pay as you go plan because that way I know ahead of time how much I have to pay. I also don't use my phone too much so it works out well. How much do you pay per month for a cell phone? Has it ever been anywhere near 85,000$??

It certainly is insane! This is the reason why I now use a tracphone and my bill is $10.49 a month. I basically only use it for calling cabs and the occasional text message to one of my kids but I once got a $300 bill from Cingular and told myself to wake up and smell the roses! Of course the guy who did all of that web surfing is to blame don't you think? These stories just make me shake my head in amazement!

My son has been asking for a cell phone and with him riding his bike to and from school I think it would be a good idea we were thinking of a tracphone for him to keep cost down do yo think the tracphones are worth it?
I just don't know about paying $20 for on ly 60 minutes.

You can get a tracphone and set up a $10.49 a month billing that gives you a set amount of minutes a month. I use mine so seldom that I forget the exact amount but it should work for a child who isn't going to be texting and chatting all the time.

Well, it is his fault for not knowing what his plan included. I have never had a high bill as I watch my minutes and I know what I can and can't do.
My bill is about$40 a month and that is all I need to use. I don't text often and I usually don't use it much.

I agree that it's insane that someone received an $85,000 cell phone bill. He should have read through the entire contract, though, and made sure that he knew exactly what the plan he chose included. My husband and I have a pay as you go phone from Virgin Mobile. We use it for emergencies and reaching people when we're out and about. How much is costs us monthly can vary, but we're only required to top up the phone with $20 every 3 months and I don't think we've ever used more than $15, if not $10, in a single month.

I think that oil field worker need to find out exactly what his mobile subscription contract encompasses...If he wasn't told, he could incur a high cost like what he did...
Of course, the responsibility also falls on the service provider to let the subscriber know and also if the subscriber exceeds the download limit

My cell phone plan is about $80 a month that is for two phones with unlimited calling. I would love to have my cell phone bill only $12 we are thinking of getting my son a cell phone and the bill will go up even higher than.

I would never use my cell phone to access internet, i got the computer for that reason.Furthermore, no-one can be sure about the cost, thats why he had to pay so much.I think it was mistake though, thats extremely big amount of money.
Call charges are high where i live, extremely high.My bill is approximately 30euros a month, and i avoid using the cellphone without reason.Of those, the 20euros is the standard price i got to pay without any calls at all, for being given the right to use the cellphone network!
Pricey, huh?
