Lead in toys? What gives?

Ok, I am having a hard time getting my head around the fact that the US is getting lots of toys these days from other countries that are full of lead. What gives? Why isn't there a standard for all countries selling goods to the US to protect our kids?
Why does the US always go for the cheaper price and not at the big picture?
What are your views on this? I'm just having trouble with it all together. If you have a different opinion on it all, please feel free to let us know.
Thanks,
~~Taz~~

It's all capitalism and consumerism. America is a capitalist country, they want to make money and these big companies don't care what they have to do as long as they are getting their 'well deserved' piece of the pie. So, of course it's only natural for them to avoid the big picture. They only are acting like they care because they have too because they are in the spotlight.

Yep, they have been caught with their pants down so to speak and they've got to try to make us think that they care. Just plain stupid if you ask me!!

I think it all stems from greed. It's common knowledge that over the years, big companies have been outsourcing their work overseas for cheap labor. Therefore, costs the company less, and they make more money. It all boils down to that, money.
It makes me sick to think of how long this has been going on for, I have a feeling it's been for a long while, especially with how many products were recalled. Definitely needs to be better testing done.
You're about my age, remember back in the 80's, I think it was mostly over cars, because a lot of the GM plants were closing etc., but the whole Buy American phase that went on? You'd see those commercials and stickers everywhere....lots of truth in that now!

You are right. I do remember that!! It's just sickening to know that our country is so greedy that they are willing to put our lives and the lives of the kids at risk just to save a buck!! Ridiculous!!!

I've been wondering the same thing. What gives? Shopping for my two year old grandson was next to impossible!

Hopefully you were able to find some things for your grandson that did not contain lead. Did you get them tested at a hospital or buy a home lead tester? I pray that everything you got for him is safe and there will be no problems.
