That's so exciting - and scary - did you catch it on film? I'm looking forward to it, and I'm nervous, 'specially if running follows suit! How old is she?

No we didn't catch it on film. :( We'er slackers. But she's ten months old. It's so funny becuase she's walking but she doesn't bend her knees yet and she always has her hand in the air like some one is robbing her. Lol It's funny. And she's trying to run when she gets all excitted and falls on her face. Lol Poor kiddo

My daughter started walking at 11 months. She was already into everything when she'd crawl. The independence was nice, because I could just put her down on the floor and she'd actually be on her feet instead of all fours. I was very excited to see her walking. I guess the only difference is she'd explore a larger area when she began to walk, so I had to follow her around an entire house, rather than just a room. It's not such a big deal at our house, because she knows where she can go.... but when we are visitors elswhere, it's a different story. SHe's 19 months now and she can communicate and knows more of her limits, so none of this really applies anymore. Good luck!!! I LOVE babies!

My baby goes all over the house both crawling and walking along things, so what next when he's walking!!! I love my baby!

My oldest daughter really started walking around 14 months.
My son was 10 1/2 months when he started walking.
My middle daughter was 12 months old.
And my youngest daughter started walking the week before she turned 1.
My son and my youngest daughter were the trouble makers. He was only 10 months old and was into everything. My youngest daughter is just a little stinker and wants to do everything her brother and sisters do.

That's so funny. I'm sure my baby would be the same way if he had an older brother or sister - and I'm sure he'd be glad to lead a younger sibling into trouble too!

My daughter is almost 8 months and she is not walking yet. It Will be such a joy when she does. At the moment she is rolling all over the place but she is not crawling ye. So I think that it may be awhile until she is walking. It is such a joy having a baby, watching it grow.

It is a joy to have a baby. I'm a bit nervous about walking - and later running - myself but know that boys will be boys. Every day is new and a wonder to them and I love that. We could learn from them in that way.

my son started walking at 14 months but i couldnt allow him to go on his own coz when he gets excited he runs!!!and this really freaks me out...i dont want him to stumble and fall...i dont know if i am but they say im overprotective...(he's my first born)i am just scared that he might hit his head on things or he might bruise himself...i fear the long term effects on his head or knees etc...so what we did was we let him run and walk in his crib(fully padded..hahaha)now he's 16 months old and walks alone although we still have to remind him not to run...^_^

I'm nervous too, but there are so many places he will likely injure himself, the playground for instance is the originator of many bumps, scrapes bruises and broken bones. My baby is 13 months and I don't like to confine him - he hates it - we just watch closely.
I sooooooooo know what you mean about being nervous!

Great age, does your mother report that you got into more trouble?

my daughter started walking around 9 months and running by 10 months. cute but i thought i would get more time before she started walking. hummm what trouble can she get into. really not much more then when she was crawling. she can reach more now so things got higher and she is a little braver with where she goes. when she crawed she wouldn't leave the room i or my husband was in but now she leaves the room and you have to go looking for her. i love that she is little miss independent now that she can walk but its harder to keep track of her. shes under your feet one minute and where is she!!! the next.

Why is it that she can reach more things now? My baby isn't walking officially yet - but he walks by holding onto things, like counters and couches and chairs. And he has this convertable car - you can ride in it or convert it so you can walk by pushing it so he holds it with both hands and walks or with one and walks beside it and sometimes he walks holding our forefinger or hand lightly, I think its a security thing, or he takes a few steps on his own. Yet even though he's not officially walking yet, he can reach - he's very tall for 13 months and has been for months - so for months now we've really had to rearrange our drawers - and next week we'll get safety catches...and he can reach what's on counters and tables!
He crawls lightening fast and although not officially walking can get around standing up holding onto things fast -so its kinda the same. I'm most worried in the kitchen with the flagstone tile - one good thunk - er I shudder. But I have to be careful about being too nervous because I don't want him to catch that and get to be afraid of everything. Boys, I'm told, get into all kinds of accidents!

My daughter was later then any other baby i know! she was.. 15 months. and now she has been walking two months or maybe a little longer and she's OFF and on a mission. she gets into anything i leave around for her to find. But i am lucky she is not one of those babies that stick EVERYTHING they find into their mouths. THANK GOODNESS.

My daughter was a year old when she started to walk. My son was about 1o months. It was very exciting, and yes they can move faster and reach higher a lot of things need to be moved out of reach. It is great fun though and worth the work.

Although not truly walking yet - he walks along things - and has a convertable car he can walk across the room with - he can crawl lightening fast - faster then that will be a challenge - he's already reaching - he can already the stove buttons and the second highest drawer in the kitchen so that won't be a real change when he starts walking. I agree it will be great fun

I'm a mother of 6, from 15 down to 7 months. My oldest 5 all started walking before or within the week of their first birthday. I'm a busy person, and if they want to go, they gotta keep up...LOL. Just kidding. But I really am a busy person. Whether in the house or just on the go. And like me, my kids are nosy and have to see what I'm doing, which I think played a big part in them wanting to walk on their own. I hope this last one follows suit and does the same. I was never worried about what they could get into, I just figured it couldn't be any worse than what they were getting into when they were crawling and furniture walking. And I was right. The only difference was that now they could get to the trouble faster. Lucky for me, I'm quick on my feet.

Wow six, you really can multi task - keeping an eye on the kids and keeping up with your busy schedule. Do the older ones help around the house?

My daughter started walking around really good at about 8 1/2 months. She is not almost 11 months old and is tearing around the house like a little Tazmanina devil.
My son started walking well at 9 months old. He picked up very quickly that he could get into just about anything once he could walk.

Were you nervous when they started to walk - and did you catch record in video? Does she bump into things and fall?

My son started really walking alone at 14 months. It was wonderful. Now he can walk to the car instead of me having to carry him, and he is really proud of himself. I wasn't worried about him getting into trouble. What worried me was when he learned to climb, at around 11 months. He could climb onto just about anything, so even things left on the dining room table or counter top are not safe. That is more difficult, at least for me.

Yeah my baby likes to climb, and he's tall enough that he can get into anthing! I guess you're right, climbing could cause more of a potential hazard. Were you able to video tape his first steps - or his climbing?

My son was a late bloomer in the walking department. He has stood up, climbed, and toddled along furniture since he was about 9 months. But as for walking, he didn't do that till last month! At 16 months off he went. Sure he had toddled a few steps before this, but he always seemed to prefer crawling, it was much faster! Then one day off he went. Since then, he hasn't slowed down any either! I am very excited and happy. I don't think he gets into anything more then he did before. After all he stood, climbed, and walked along edges...

Were you nervous when he first started walking? Its healthy for kids to cross crawl - its good for both brain development - using both sides of the brain and for upper body strength. A lot of babies are skipping crawling because of the whole sids thing and they are weaker in their upper bodies later.

i have 4 children. ages 7 years, 5 years, 3 years, and 5 months. my oldest took his first step 3 days before his 1st birthday. my 2nd took her first step 3 weeks before her 1st birthday, she just skipped the whole crawling. my 3rd started walking 1 week before his 1st birthday. and, well, my baby is too young to walk but i'm sure it will be around her 1st birthday.

Four kids! Wow, i'm suprized your girl walked before her brother, I guess I keep reading that boys develop motor skills quickly and girls verbal. I guess that's another argument for taking people as individuals who develop in their own time.
My son isn't officially walking beyond a few steps. He's been walking around furniture and such since seven months and walking by pushing his car either in front of him or holding with one hand and pushing it beside him. He does walk when he holds our forefinger or our hand lightly so I'm wondering if he just feels insecure.
Were you able to record his first steps? I want my husband to trade phones with me so I can record it!
