Do you sleep deeply or get woken up easily?

I personally sleep really deeply, i've always been like that. I think it's a great thing, specially when, like me, I don't sleep many hours a day....just 6 or so are enough for me, but that's precisely because i sleep really deeply. As a result, it's hard to wake me up.
There's an exception though. Sometimes I am expecting a call late night while i sleep, and those nights a little part of me stays awake so that i can wake up right away when the phone rings, and i am glad it is like that. It's been very useful lately :)
Do you have a really deep sleep? do you get woken up easily?

It depends on how much sleep I've been getting. If I haven't gotten enough sleep I tend to sleep more soundly.

I believe I have always been a light sleeper. My sister told me that when we were living at home sharing a room together, she opened the bedroom door and I shot up in bed. I did not remember it.
Once you become a mother I think you automatically become a light sleeper because you want to be able to hear your children if they need you.
And then I developed fibromyalgia wherein we with the illness never go into a deep sleep. Even with the aid of sleeping pills, I sleep but most certainly do not get into that Stage IV restorative sleep. However, I didn't hear anyone get up this morning and they forgot to wake me because Tuesday is the day I babysit. I woke up when the little girl rang my doorbell at 8:30. Ugh! I opened the door in my pyjamas! I still haven't had a shower.
When my husband is working (he is now off for two weeks) I usually hear him when he gets up in the morning but I go back to sleep. And when he works nights I hear him come in in the morning. I hear the kids getting their cereal as the kitchen cupboards below share the common wall that our bed is up against. But because I go to bed so late, sometimes I hear nothing at all. But I don't think that means I am in a deep sleep. I could be pre-occupied in a dream.

Hey Lightnin darlin - I'm back! lol I used to sleep very, very deeply when I was younger but now in my mid (ok well late then) 30's I find it hard to sleep at all and am really easily awoken - which is a real pain as I can't get back to sleep again! When I was about 6 I was staying with my sister and brother in law during the school holidays when a bomb went off in the village - I was the only person who slept through it - it even woke people who lived a mile outside of the village! xxx

I wished that i sleep deep. But i dont. If i hear the phone ring or someone talking to me even it wakes me up. It really doesnt take much to wake me up. The only way im in a deep sleep is if im sick.

Unfortunately my sleeping patterns have actually changed for the worst, years ago I could always sleep soundly and only an earthquake could wake me up! Now tho' the slightest noise like a cough or the wind blowing will stir me and it takes me forever to get back to sleep again. I long to be able to go into a deep sleep again. I think it's the stresses of life that pray on our minds that keep us alert or happily sleepy.

I used to be a very deep sleeper, but lately I will wake up to the slightest thing, from having a crease in the pillowcase where I don't like it, or thinking I hear something outside, traffic that is too loud, or if my daughter sneezes (she is 4 months old and still sleeps in a bassinet in my room). Yep, I wish I could be a deep sleeper again. I miss my sleep!!!

I woke up easily during sleep. Most times I sleep very light during the night. Because I am working in night shift, I mostly sleep during the night at weekends when I get my off days. I gets up easily if I hear anyone calling or with any noise. If I am too tired I do not get up easily. I think most times when I sleep I get a sound and deep sleep. I get fresh most times when I get up after my sleep.

It has to be really annoying to wake up during your sleep so often, really...but that's what working in shifts bring, experts say. After a while, sleeping cycles get all messed up. I hope that it all gets worked out for you. thank you for replying.

I am a very light sleeper and I would wake up to the slightest unfamiliar noise that I hear when I am asleep. I wonder how could I hear things when I am asleep. LOL! So, I can wake up at anytime I want since the sound of the alarm clock would definitely wake me up.

I am an extremely light sleeper. I get awaken very easily. I get easily awaken by a shout or a phone call. Recently, I went on a holiday with a friend who grinds her teeth. Even though I was very tired, I could not sleep well in the night. I was very disturbed by the noise. I only slept an average of 3 hours per night.
There are rare occasions that I slept really deeply and soundly. Once in a blue moon, I would actually not hear my alarm in the morning ringing. That rarely happens as I always get awaken by the alarm. I guess it only happened when I am really very tired.

I am a really light sleeper. It drives me nuts. Each time one of my kids cough or make a noise down the hallway I am up to make sure they are okay. If one of the dogs is pacing in the living room I hear that, too. I'm hoping that as the kids get older I might be able to sleep more soundly.

well previously i used to wake up even with sound of a small thing, however now i sleep deeply.from my childhood only my parents used to say that she sleeps very deeply.i used to sleep ofr 6-7 hours but after coming to hostel in my college,i just used to wake up ,probably because of fear.doctors say that a sound sleep ofr 5-6 hours in more than enough for a healthy body.

I am definitely a deep sleeper.
It's always been my problem because I can't wake up by myself. I need someone to wake me up so I can attend by 7am class. Alarms will do no good for me since I can't hear it even if it's volume was in the highest level already.

For me, a lot depends on my previous nights sleep and how tired/exhausted I might be. If I am exhausted...I can sleep 9-12 hours and not get woken up easily. If I have had consistent nights sleep previously though, then I can use less sleep and I believe i am a "lighter" sleeper as well during those sleep sessions.

Actually, it depend on what I did for that day. Usually, the more I do, the deeper my sleep. I used to be a really deep sleeper in my teenage years, but I think it's part of the growing older that's causing me to be woken up easier now.
