Yesterday i was walking into a particularly well-known boutique when i heard the end of an argument between a customer and shop assistant. i have no idea what they were talking about nor was i particularly interested but it had something to do with the shop assistant being rude to the customer's wife.
As the customer was leaving with his wife, the shop assistant said:'How old is she anyway?' I'm not sure if it was a sarcastic reference to the fact that the wife was obviously much younger than her husband. Or that the shop assistant felt that she didn't deserve much respect because she was around the same age as he himself
Either way,my mouth dropped open.
I'm not sure what was worse - a)the fact that he was so rude to the customer or b)that he was even ruder to ask a woman her age. the customer told the shop assistant off.His wife just kept quiet. They left.
And i did, too.Tell me,what's happened to good manners and basic courtesy?

Wow, this clerk had some nerve didn't he? I don't blame you for leaving, I would have done the same thing! I'm glad the man told him off, it sounds like he deserved it. Manners are a thing of the past. You just don't see it often anymore.
