Back to the future - was probably the earliest of the Sci-fi flicks produced/ directed by Steven Spielberg. Steven Spealberg was probably the first hollywood director who I keenly followed since my teenage. Be it Jaws, Alien, BTTF or later on - JUrassic Park, AI etc etc. I keenly saw all his sci-fi/futuristic flicks. Have you seen Back to the Future?

Um... Back to the Future was directed by Robert Zemeckis. Stephen Spielberg was executive producer, not even producer. Alien was directed by Ridley Scott. Spielberg wasn't involved with it at all, nor was he involved with any of the sequels. It doesn't seem to me like you saw them too "keenly" (at least not the credits anyway).

I apologise, in my hurry I wrote Aliens instead of ET.. I am really sorry. As for Back to the future, I had seen the movie long time back & all that I knew then was that Steven was associted with it. I am sorry again as I should have checked the credits!.. I apologise

Now E.T. WAS a Spielberg movie. It was far from his best work but it bears his name as auteur (aka "director). If you watch the batch of movies he directed back in the day his work is hard to mistake. The cinematography is identical in every one. This includes Jaws, Poltergeist, 1941, Close Encounters. Watch them and pay close attention to the camera angles, the lighting, the focus on the actors and sets and you'll see some unmistakable patterns. As he's gotten older his style has thankfully become a lot more eclectic but it's still not that hard to spot his directorial work.

I associate Steven spielberg with wonderful Sci-fi genre, however with time he has experimented and Schindler's list was one such experiment. However, I would love Steven to keep coming out with his Sci-Fi genre.. which he is best at. AI is another example of his brilliance in that genre.
