I totally believe in God...not god, gods, etc. There is one true Creator and He is an amazing, wonderful Father to those that will let Him in their hearts. You have to accept Him though. You don't just say, God is in my heart...if you don't feel Him there, He's not there. You may have some sort of god, but it's not God! When you feel the Holy Spirit inside of you it's an incredible feeling and it can't be shaken. Talking to your family about your decision is a bad idea I think...like someone said in an earlier comment...if they are young you might influence them in the wrong way and they need to find themselves and their way, not through you. As to the person that said, go with the flow...I have to disagree. God is not a go with the flow thing. He is very real and lives inside of each and every Christian. Christianity is not a flow, it is a special bond between that person and God. If he doesn't believe in our God, he shouldn't go with the flow. God bless

Sweetie, I hate to tell you this, but there was God before there was anything else. God created the Heavens and the Earth...so how do you come up with there was something else before there was God. If it weren't for God, none of us would be here at all. It all started with Him and it will all end with Him! And praise God when that day comes. I for one cannot wait for the Lord to return to bring His people home. It will be a glorious day and will be glorious throughout eternity. God bless

well i come along saying this because God was brought by abraham, only so many thousands of years ago. where before that people believed in science and the celestial way. the celestial way has been around way before the term God came to be. and one of my things that i dont like about religion is all this HE and HIM what about the feminine end? everyone has a masculine and feminine inside of them so why doesnt God? its always HIM, and thats not right, where to the celestial way the women has a stronger connection with everything for what she stands for and for what she can do. and WOMEN came before men in this way. even in science every baby is first a female, males turn into males...

You know, being an atheist is not a sin (of course, when you don't believe in God, the question of sinning doesn't arise). If you don't feel the presence of a Supreme Being from within yourself, then it's futile to follow those rituals. But it's difficult to maake a stand on this issue before your parents. Thay would like you to be a devout Catholic just like they are. You know, sometimes we have to do things which we don't like because otherwise, we will be breaking the hearts of our near and dear ones. I would advise you not to declare open battle against your parents' wishes at present. You must gradually make them realise that you aren't much interested in these rituals. I think it's a better idea if you don't tell them that you are an atheist. Tell them that you find God in your heart. There's no need for you to do these meaningless rituals. Stay firm on your opinion and one day, they will accept your arguments.

I also do not believe in excessive rituals and especially visiting temple after temple and praying to stone idols there. For your information, I am a hindu. I believe what I told you. God lives in my heart and I don't need to go to temples and pray to stone idols there. But yes, I do believe in God, there's no denying it.

i am very happy that you say that god and not GOD because the BIBLE says that the fools say in there heart there is no GOD so how can you created in the image of GOD and not gods say that you believe on what your ancestors believed i know that when you tell your family that you can easily influence them if they are young it will better if you if you go back and think twice on this thing because Jesus is the only one and true God.so brother think very well before you crash.

Part of your problem accepting G'd may be stemming from the very fact that you were raised catholic. I have watched this happen many times with catholics. It is an all or nothing thing. Maybe if you could get over the catholic concept of G'd and look at it from a different perspective it might help you.
There is no problem with believing in science and G'd. The Big Bang theory does not leave G'd out of the picture. He still started the whole Universe etc. Just because it does not follow the Bible word for word does not make the Bible less important or science less true.
If you read Genesis, what is the major theme in the bit about Adam and Eve and mankind and their relationship with G'd? It is knowledge. The tree of Knowledge, the forbidden fruit which would give man the Knowledge of G'd etc. When man was put out of Eden, he was put over all the animals, because his Knowledge was superior to theirs. I believe that G'd is pure Knowledge. Mankind has always tried to put human attributes on G'd but this is really not possible. I do think that the closest we can come is to say that He is Knowledge. I hope that this helps you a little bit.

well it has happened a lot, and i was very catholic i know so much about it that fathers and everyone in my classes would let me that i should become a priest. so my case is a little different it has more to do so of im starting my path on the way of the mexica, my ancestors! and the ways of ancient man, for men didnt always believe in God it started w/abraham (the father of all religions). which is science to the most profound way it can be imagined. what scientist are barely discovering today the mexica already knew thousands of years ago. and trust me you wont meet another person that can see things from all angles like me...

There is God and there are many gods. There is the true God the one in the Holy Bible and there are gods the ones made by men and they have eyes but cannot see, ears but cannot hear, mouth but cannot speak, hands but cannot hold, feet but cannot walk, nose but cannot smell, etc. And there is still another kind of god which is none other than yourself if you do not believe that there is a creator of everything including you.

Personally I do believe in God. However I also ask questions and seek answers along the way using science, philosophy, experience, viewpoints, other's views. Its an ongoing quest for knowledge in my opinion. I also have faced the fact I could be completely wrong. I even have a discussion on (not really on God(s) or Goddess(es)) but on "Heaven" itself. Just as a mental exercise and to see what others could come up with my exercise. That discussion may help or may just leave you with more questions, I really don't know. Either way, issues of thought, science, belief and faith should be considered when dealing with opposing or deeply opposing viewpoints. You should just explain what you believe to your family, and if they are really your family they'll accept it (or learn to). Again, its your life and you came to this conclusion. Nothing anyone says will change much, this decision belongs to you.
Also, I think people should be allowed to live and believe as they wish.
