interest rankings... making an impression of bias?

the stars tell us how well we perform, and the interest as well..
the confusion comes when selecting and hearing the loudest opinion.
just because the level is higher, will make the advantage, and for the not so high level or other newbies had nothing to impress much..
will divert attention to the superior.
this level in interest ranking,
will it affect your judgment and conclusion?
if a person does have the highest level in certain interest, are there greater possibilities that,
that person is heard most than
the others with lesser score?
do you think its a bit biased?
we'll be sticking to the interest which we score highest and wont explore whats other interest has to offer.. since we will start to level one..
we can be one sided..
hmmm...
but what do you think about this issue guys?
thanks...^_^

I have high rankings in several interests, but I would like to think that if people listen to me it is because my words make sense, not because of interest rankings. I've had a lot of people on mylot say they respect me or value my opinions, before the interest rankings, and even when my star dropped for a bit, so I'm not so sure it really makes a difference. I think most people look at the words that are said more than anything else.
I certainly don't judge people off any of the rankings. If they have a really low star number, I'll probably wonder who they made angry, but that doesn't necessarily mean I won't listen to them. Also, having a low ranking in an interest probably just means they haven't participated in discussions on that much... which says nothing at all about their life experience or study in that field.
I am amused by some of the categories that I have good rankings in, and I have a half-joking goal to get to the top in one of them, but I would never judge others by those things. I just find it funny to see what people think of me, and which categories I take part in most.

yes, and i dont really look at it honestly..
what matters is the opinion and the sense..
im just worried, because i saw some discussions, well... only with higher levels are responded or interacted by people much than of that lower one.
thanks lecanis.. i miss you..^_^ and a plus..

My guess on that would be that it has more to do with how long you've been here and who your friends are. I know a lot of times people only respond to their friends, or will respond to someone who is well-known on the site.
Sorry my participation has been kind of erratic lately. I've been having some issues. I'm glad I got a chance to respond to you today! :)

I have a discussion on some of my own and what I think about them.
Some of the interest rankings are very poor since they are based on ever since mylot formed; so other people who are no longer here may get leaderboard, but people who've spent 2, 3, 4, 5 months in an interest recently don't get that much credit. Other times, the interests are a bit more fair. Then there are those where people don't interact as much (or think they don't) but somehow they have a high ranking in it.
For me, I'm just going to post what I want and when I can. I do try to get a couple of interests up, but just like my star rating, I know not much is going to happen. -_-

Hi vehaileairu,
Firsty thanks for a pertinent post.
I feel, apart from my good friends, it will going to make a difference to other users, more or less. My friends know about my level of interactivity, my finesse or my earnesty and my emotions or how true are they. So, the interest ranking would not affect them in the least. But, I am sure, level 1-2 and level 16 will mean a lot to others.
Vehail, both the rankings and the stars are mostly dependent on the whims of the users. Even when we give a apparently quality response, at the end of the day its onto others who help initiate our quality of interactivity. So, personally, I hardly give much importance on addons like this. This rather create confusion and a kind on unexplained complex, both superior and inferior.
I think myLot could have worked on the other aspects like earning. It would be an incentive and all the stars and rankings would be taken care of automatically. lol...
One positive thing, however, is that the interest categories which I have not touched recently would be explored now due to the rankings. lol..
LOve and hugs
WISHINF YOU AND YOU FAMILY MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Well they are great motivators for me. But I'm confused also. I thought that if you get a high ranking in a interest category the more "knowedgable" you are of the topics in that interest, So does that mean if I got a level 16 under the catogory of depression then I'm a very depressed guy?!(LOL). But sadly, its not an indicator of how knowledgable you are. I guess everything here in mylot is a counter. Every discussion you make, every post, every comment (significant probably but I think not entirely) counts credited to you. But then I could be also wrong. I just answer topics that interest me. And if I get a level up, that's ok. But I'll make sure that there is significance in my posts or comments. Again, I maybe wrong so please correct me.
