It is incredibly crazy how depressed people get during the holidays. This year I am trying not to let myself get that depressed, but I have seen others around me get so down. What have you experienced during the holidays, as far as feelings go? Are you usually happy, or does the cold weather and christmas shopping overwhelm you? I feel like people let it get to their head way way too much. I live in Ohio, and so far the weather is not terrible. Also, I decided this year to only buy presents for people that they needed. No toys or candy from me. I also donated a ton of clothes, coats, and food to the local homeless shelter. It made me feel so great. Not only was I cleaning out my room and organizing the cabinets, but I was giving. Seriously, if you just do something productive with your time, the winter blues will not shine down upon you. What suggestions do you have about fighting the winter blues?

i completely agree with you there. i know gift cards seem very impersonal, but honestly, wouldn't you rather give someone a gift card to somewhere that they like and have them pick out something for themselves. i absolutely love gift cards. i hope things work out for ya!! and your bills

Good for you xtiffi to buy something for those close to you. Me I'm really down on my luck this year. I't Christmas around the corner and for me it's like an ordinary date/ day. I'm still thinking what excuse I can give my visiting god children since it's become a tradition here to give something. I'm thinking I'll sleep it (Christmas eve) off. Anyway, Wish you have a Happy little Christmas. Same with your friends and love ones.

I've found that little gifts like a Piggy bank with a handful of lose change is a GREAT gift to give anyone younger than 18. It encourages them to save, and in the long run they will really thank you for it. My god mother opened a savings account for me when I was 5 with $5 in it, and I still add money to it today. Believe me, there is a ton of money in it and I really thank her for that. Also, my mother and father have a huge baby bottle bank that they store loose change and dollars in almost everyday for my niece and nephew and they use the money to buy their birthday presents when the time comes around.

I look at the face of my children and how happy they are to have the holiday finally be here they are 9 & 12. Also I do hate the cold I'm on the outskirts of Toronto Ca so we got cold and snow brrr. So I bundle up and try to remember that warmth is just around the corner, some hibernating to, lol. I'm celebrating Yule/Winter Solstice this year so that has really helped me this year. Oh and I love the eggnog and this is the only time of year that I can drink lots of it:). Kids help lots, for people that don't have any just check out the faces of ones you see and you will see and feel they're joy. Happy Holidays to you and yours. bbsmiles

Usually christmas is always a happy time at my house. But this year is a different story. Its been a pretty crappy year so not many of us are really looking forward to celebrating christmas. I havent gotten down myself but others in the house has. The weather has been really good here. Hasnt really snowed much or anything like that. I think with fighting the winter blues its best if you dont sit around and mope. One thing is for sure. You dont want to be by yourself.

Call friends I haven't spoken to during the more hectic spring, summer or fall. Watch my cat do some of the craziest stuff! He tried to walk in my husband's slippers, it was hysterical. Watch funny movies and listen to funny songs. Put on some fun dance music and dance. Watch and try to follow along with fit TV exercises. I find being social, watching my crazy cat, and moving to music great ways to feel better. Take care

Yes I know how you mean well I always try to buy some gifts from my local charity shops as they sell new things as well and I know it is going to a good cause. I love Christmas because I love giving it is part of my personality. I don't like the cold months, but I do like Christmas.
