The Old House--Final Update

Just a quick note on the old (1860) house we were considering buying. Since my husband finally got his state vehicle (after 3 years of being told it is coming), we won't be buying the old house. The problem is we work in Louisiana and the house is in Mississippi and he can't take the unit over the state line. There were other minor factors, but this one was the major one that made our decision. Now there is still hope! If I happen to win the lottery we can buy this home for a second home or a vacation home! Wooohooo. Not really reality but who knows...lol. Thanks to all for the feedback on repairs, maintenance and ghosts! Have a wonderful holiday season!

Hey, you never know what could happen. I would LOVE to have a summer home, but at the same time I think it's a lot of work to maintain two homes. I hope you find another house in state if you are still looking :)

Thanks! Right now the front runner is 5 acres with a mobile home on it. We will eventually build on the property if we go ahead with it. I love the acreage, but not sure how I'll love the mobile home. The living area and master bedroom are all spacious but the other two bedrooms are tiny. One will be an office and ok, and the other a guest room. This will have to do until we build, which would be a couple of years away.

With the outcome of building your own home you can make yourself put up with the mobile home for a little while. Just think, you can incorporate all the things you want int o the house you build.

This may be a blessing in disguise. It is time for that vehicle, if he has been promised for three years, and with the work you are wanting to do to your current residence, this gives you time to do it in good order. I will bet you can find a nice old house in Louisiana when you are ready to sell the one you are in. Take your time. That long commute gets expensive, both gas and vehicle wise and personal time wise. I know you want to get away from your lousy neighbors, and it will happen just maybe not quite as fast as you were hoping.

Well so far the vehicle hasn't gotten the OK to drive back and forth home. They told him they were working on approvals put in last January 2007. HAHAHA. This may take some time at the speed they are going.

Aww...I was really excited about hearing about that house too! What would have happened if you'd already purchased the house and they finally got around to giving him the state vehicle...like if it had happened after the papers were signed but before you moved? Or would he have just not been issued the vehicle once they knew you "lived" in Mississippi? It's too bad either way...now go out and buy a bunch of lottery tickets! I don't know anyone else down there that can buy the house and tell me about it!

He would still get the car but not be able to drive it back and forth to work--which is a big advantage with saving on gas! I am buying tickets whenever I remember...lol. I don't usually buy them. Still hope I guess! Always hope!
