Can you tell the difference between Coca Cola and Pepsi?

I don't think there was ever a time when I liked Coke. To me it has always been too sweet for my taste. If I had a glass of each in front of me unmarked I could tell the difference just by the smell and believe me it's happened. I think it's also a little to syrupy compared to Pepsi which is more carbonated.
Can you tell the difference? Is it just the taste or can you also tell the difference in the smell?

I can tell the difference easy Ctry. Pepsi is sweeter and has a distinct corn syrup smell to it. Coke isnt as sweet, its sharper in taste, has more carbonate and it has a compressed carbonate scent to it, along with light corn syrup.

Pepsi loses its carbonate much faster than coke when left out in the open. Pepsi will lose its taste in roughly an hour or two after open, while coke takes more than twice that amount of time to fully lose carbonation.

LOL and Pepsi tastes a little too bitter and bleh to me! I can definitely tell the difference by smell also. I never thought about it but you're right Pepsi does seem more fizzy while Coke seems heavier. I don't 'hate' Pepsi and I can tolorate it if I have no choice, I just try to avoid it. Coke on the other hand I buy by the case and always have on hand.

I tend to like the more bitter flavors than sweet in just about anything so I guess that's why I prefer the Pepsi over Coke.

You can choose a Coke Light if your taste is more sweeter. Coke Light is less in sugar and it is good to all those who are not drinking more sweeter beverages.

Yeah, I can tell the difference between the two. Growing up I liked Pepsi better, but over the last thirteen years I have been in envirnoments were Coke is the norm. A couple of weeks ago, when they switched over the vending machines on campus to Pepsi, I found myself a little annoyed. I am not completely sure if it was the product, or just the fact that they chose this time to raise prices, or both. *sigh*

I've noticed that most soda machines have only Coke and could never figure out the reason behind that.

I really do not find any difference even in the taste. Either my taste buds are insensitive or I'm still to put conscious effort to find it out.
When I'm drinking Coke, I will not remember Pepsi's taste and when I'm having Pepsi, I cannot remember how Coke tastes. And I haven't gotten as fanatical yet as to try both of them together, taking one sip from each alternatively, just to find out how different one is from the other.
The one easily noticeable difference is, Coke is more controversial than Pepsi, at least in this part of the world called India.

Oh yeah! I can definitely tell the difference. Coke is way too sweet for me. I drink diet Pepsi, and I can even tell the difference between the diet versions of both. I think the only Coke product I can drink is Sprite, and that's because it calms my stomach when it's upset. Go figure!

I can tell the difference. I think it is even worse when it is diet. I am diabetic so I have to drink diet and I have a real hard time drinking diet coke. It leaves an aftertaste in your mouth and I just can't handle it. Got to have my Pepsi.

I have been asked this question countless times, ctry, and it may be because everyone knows that I'm a confirmed Pepsi drinker. There is no way that I would ever confuse the taste of the two drinks. They are as different(to me) as night and day. Pepsi has a crisper, tinglier taste than Coke. Coke does seem to have a heavier, sweeter taste. I also found Pepsi to be an excellent cure for a hangover-back when I needed one!

Ha I'm the opposite. I don't think there was ever a time I liked Pepsi. I don't like Pepsi I think it's way sweeter than coke. I pretty much stopped drinking soda a few years ago anyway because it's not good for you, but I like Coke more than Pepsi and yes I can tell the difference.

Hi ctrymuziklvr
I can tell the difference between Pepsi and Coca Cola. I prefer Coca Cola, the taste is better.
However I'm not sure I could tell the difference just by the smell...
And, I can't tell the difference between Coca Cola light and Pepsi, or Pepsi light. It's because there is more zacharose I think. I don't like Pepsi and Coca light.
I remember once reading in a magazine that people who said they could difference Pepsi and Coke and that they like Coca Cola more than Pepsi, when they do a blind test, they said that they prefered a glass of what they though was Coke but in fact it was Pepsi.
So I asked a friend of mine to help me making this test, but I recongized Coca Cola without any problems :)
How can you tell the difference by the smell I wonder?

Well, Coke is older and when Pepsi was made the were inspired by coke, trying to find the "secret ingredient" of Coca cola, but I don't think they have done a good job. i don't know why but I like coke more. Pepsi is like a coke when you leave the cap open, and it's too much sweeter

I don't know if I could tell the difference with the smell. but I sure can with the taste. I don't drink them often. But it seems like if we are eating in a fast food most of the serve Coke. I can drink it but really prefer Pepsi. To me Coke has a flatter taste then Pepsi. Most of the time I prefer water now days any way. But Pepsi gets my vote.

I can for sure tell the difference, my hubby likes to drink STRICKLY coke from a can. he can't even have it from a bottle lol. its just about the only thing he drinks, and since he doesnt' take time to eat very often, i think that's what keeps him going is all the sugar. I like pepsi, but i dont drink pop very often. Sometimes i take a few swigs of hubby's coke if its sitting close to me, its not that i dislike it, i just like the pepsi better. I'd much rather have a nice ICE COLD glass of milk. Or a bowl of ice cream mixed with milk, sort of like a home made shake in a bowl :)

Years ago I worked for those in-sore demo companys and I had to do that Coke vs. Pepsi test behind the panel and all. No one really cared as to what they were doing, they just wanted a free drink! But I can tell the difference. Pepsi is a much stonger sweeter taste. So sweet and strong I can't stand it!

I can tell the difference between the two. Similar difference between the diet two. I switched when I finally decided o lose the extra weight i had. I am still a Pepsi girl. It's just diet now. Coke diet or regular has always been too sweet.
