Well, most of the time, I see the discussions in today's top discussions, and the discussion subjects are really make me feel funny or meaningful, some even attracted me deeply. Then I will clink on it, and have a look at the content, then respond.
But sometimes when I see the discussions which are very long, I won't have enough patience to read them, then just fail to respond.. lol ..especially when the contents are hard to understand for me, because I'm not so good at English.. lol ..
Then I will choose the short and easy discussions to respond...
However, sometimes it really depends on what the contents is, not the length of the discussion. It's hard to say...
So, what about you? Long or short? Or whatever discussions? Will you respond to a long discussion shortly, or a short one descriptively?

I prefer whatever discussions are interesting despite length, and I'll respond to things I'm able to respond to, which is a vast amount of topics.
As for mylot in general, I do notice a lot of people do not like longer discussions. Most seem to gravitate toward the shorter discussions.

well, i don't have preference in which discussion to respond...i mean, as long as the topic really interests me even if i don't have that much knowledge in a certain topic, if it interests me, then i post a respond.

I don't really care if the discussion is long or short. It all depends on the subject itself. Discussions that are too long is boring. I didn't want to read them, especially if is not informative. I don't know hat other people is thinking, creating a long discussion that has no sense at all.
