Do you think that it is healthier to stay on a diet for months...

... or to take some intervals? I've lost a lot of kg's but now on Xmas my constancy is a bit falling and I don't know how to cope with the situation: I don't want to lose the good effects of my 'diet' but, on the other side there are some food recipes that I simply love and I don't want to lose. I'm sure I've the strength to resist to these but I'm afraid to be considered a bit misanthropic if I eat a food different from my relatives and friends. Some MyLot friend of mine has suggested me the 'spoonful remedy' and I think that is the right thing to do but I've some uncertainty of the possibility to resist... And on the other side I'm afraid of a sort of 'rebound effect' if I follow too strictly a diet also in this alimentary dangerous period. May be I'll ignore my diet for a while and then, the 7th of January I'll try to re-activate the weight losing 'road map'

I have lost over 100 lbs and it has taken me 2.5 years because I do not diet on the weekends. I feel that is what keeps me sane. I feel if you want to have a small amout of the delicious food for the holidays it is OK. I feel you will feel worst not allowing yourself the holiday fair. I ralize you do not want to go back to your old ways and gain all your weight back, but the goal is change of lifestyle and not "diet" all the time. So having holiday food every once in a while will not hurt you as long as you go back to your regular lifestyle after the holidays.

I think it's healthier to try the everything in moderation approach. Don't completely drop your diet b/c of the holidays, but do allow yourself to "cheat" a few times. Have a big plate, but make sure it's not a HUGE plate. Have some dessert, but not half a pie :) By resisting everything, you'll go nuts and you might break down and eat that half a pie. However if you allow yourself to try a little of everything in moderation, you will be able to enjoy some of the goodies without going overboard. In the end, you should NEVER ignore your diet, that's a recipe for disater. Keep yourself going as much as you can, but allow yourself some treats. This way even if you gain a few pounds, you'll know it could have been worse if you had given up completely.

Yes, i agree with the friend of your's who say to you thats spoonful remedy,I think it will not affect you at all, but put on the limit about your food, you can eat what in the table's, but not like you want to eat all even your already full, by your self if you really know about your diet you can do also even its not in the list,

nutrition and health is all about variety, balance, and moderation. it's okay to indulge occasionally as long as it's balanced with healthy foods. many diets are based on 6 days of dieting and one day off.

First, how did you pick my birthday to re start a diet? Second, I think you should eat the foods that you would usually eat during the season but not the amount you used to. In other words, have a piece of pie but not a Big piece. That way you get to have your traditional foods but you won't "lose the good effects " of your diet. And if you think you have had too much to eat one day, just exercise a little more the next day.
