Green tea how does it make you lose weight?

I have been told that green tea helps in losing weight and I have been the result. Yesterday I did a lot of sitting, being Sunday for two services, and just walking around the house. Yet I had four cups of green tea, my usual being two and when I woke up this morning, I lost four pounds. Mind you that is what I gained during the week, but I lost them in one day and night. Now could someone tell me why this is happening? Is it that green tea heats up the body inside so the fat melts or what does it do?

I'm from china and there are much tea here.maybe I could give you a good answer since I used to drink tea when i endeavor to get a good mark in the national exam.
The food people everyday eat contain a lot of acid substance which could cause increasing weight. Tea is alkaline that could reduce the acid substance and make people active(without tea you may be very sleepy after overeationg).
By the way, there are many "chinese english"above, wish you could understand..

Thank you. I understand what you are saying. Tea has the opposite effect of the food we eat, as it reverses the weight gain caused by the acid in what we eat.

I know some people who took everything in them and got cancer. Me, I would never get it because I am not afraid to speak my mind. But there are people who do make others sick. You and I scream when there is something wrong, but these others do it all the time.

I suppose with anything it depends on the type of cancer, and also I have heard that some people take their problems internally and that encourages the cancer to grow, so those nasty people who shout and scream at everyone do not get cancer. I took some diet pills with green tea and other stuff in it, and it worked, but I like a nice cup of tea and it is hard to be told you cannot drink any while taking them as there is too much caffeine.

This discussion is very interesting, I will half to start buying green tea, I know it helps you with a cold. Do you put sugar in it? I couldn't drink it without sugar. I need to lose about about 25 or 30 lbs, I can't believe you lost 4 lbs, if you did I need to hurry and buy some Grean Tea. I am going to do some research on Green tea. Thanks for this info. I was looking for some of your discussions, with no replys, I guess I half to look a little harder because right now I don't see any, and I promised I would answer some.

I use green tea and have not had a cold so far. Of course, I also have this weird concoction of hot lemon with honey, ginger, cayenne pepper, fennel seed and I drink this herb tea, so I guess it is a combination. I do not put sugar in my green tea. I heard that sugar is bad for you, although I will put a little honey when I drink herb teas.
I do have some without replies. This one, but the pain was on my right side, but just in case it switches, you can answer it.

And this one has one answer only. http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1353238.aspx
Plus this one has only one answer: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1350381.aspx
I do not know if you can answer these, but it would help.

I drink four cups a day. As for addiction, I have not heard about that factor, but if one does not have an addictive personality, you will not be. I also drink herb tea as well for a change of pace. Oh and drinking four or more cups a day prevents arthritis so I really should drink at least four cups.

I heard that it speeds up your metabolism. Green tea with ginsing, I heard, is supposed to be even better for this than regular green tea.

That sounds good. I do not know if we can get some at our regular grocery store, so I will have to see. I know I can get it in Tetley Tea, but that contains a little sodium and I already have water weight.

From what I know because I too drink green Tea. I have read that it helps speed up your metabolism. It also is full of vitemins and antioxidents so that helps you not get sick and stay heathy. I find that if I drink a cup every morning I am less likly to get sick during the winter like I normally do.

I heard about the antioxidents, but not that it speeeds up your metabolism. I did not know about the vitamins, I will have to check the box of tea I have. I suppose it depends on what brand you buy.

I drink green tea all the time. It helps speed up your metabolism and that helps you to burn up calories faster. Plus green tea is healthy for you. It is full of antioxidents and that can help protect you from some illnesses. Good luck and keep up the good work.

I have no idea, but i have gained some during the holidays and i really need to lose a few pounds so i will try that green tea...Did is cause you to go to the rest room?I was just thinking that maybe it flushes out your system. It also might cause you to get rid of some built up fluids in your body..I have heard that green tea is good and also grapefruit juice and grapefruit pills are good also, but i have never really know what it does to your body to cause the weight lose.

I do not need green tea to make me go to the washroom. All I have to do is to look at water, and it could be that I have water retention and the green tea gets rid of that, which makes me annoy because I want it to flush away the fat instead. But instead it goes straight to getting rid of my excess water and bypasses my fat.

If that was truly the case, suspenseful, I would be a bean pole. I drink roughly 1/2 my daily intake of water in the form of fresh-brewed green tea, that's 32 ozs. of it every day and I'm gaining weight for some odd reason. Actually, I know why I'm gaining but I'm wayyyy too addicted to chocolate to stop eating so much of it. I love green tea but mainly drink it fresh-brewed here at home.

I always gain in winter, and I find it hardest to lose weight around my waist and stomach. I can always tell by the way my face sort of becomes rounder. I cannot walk that fast in winter, because of the snow and even shoveling it does not help. I have always been a stocky person so even a little weight gain is bad, so I need all the help I can get.

I use to be a distributor for herbalife products and we sold green tea, and I learned that it boost your metabolism therefore causing weight loss. That's my understanding of green tea as well as it is supposed to boost your immune system.

That is nice to know. I buy green tea at the groceries, and before it was because we were eating Chinese, but now I have it all the time.

There are certain compounds and chemicals in green tea. They burn body fat in a more natural way than other diet suppliments. They also lower cholesterol. Green tea also rises your metabolism on a 24 hour basis, not like regular caffeine where it only raises it on consumption. Hope this is of help. :-)

Thank you. I was wondering about the effects green tea has. I had no idea about the compounds or whether it burns body fat or not. I did take some diet pills with green tea in it, plus other fat burning and it did cause me to lose weight, but I must have been allergic to one of the ingredients because I got dizzy. I have a slow metabolism anyway, so I guess I have to buy two packages of green tea at a time, not just one.

I also drink Green Tea, but have not seen the weight loss. I like the Gallon of diet honey and ginseng Green tea as well as the green tea you buy in box and drink hot. Remember, tho, that lot of the weight you may be losing is the water weight, not fat, due to the green tea is antioxidant and is making you use the bathroom.

I am happy to hear that you have lose some weight, but I can't explain how it works, maybe it can take your feat away from your body.In my opinion, the best way to lose weight is to take more exercise, believe it or not,I lost about 25 pounds lost month, because I played basketball 2 hours a day last month.Just as you have done, walk more

I have to do way more walking. It seems in winter I cannot get out as much and I work at my computer and cannot lose weight that way. I tried a little dancing, but even with that, my heart beat stayed the same and did not speed up. I am the type of person who has to move very fast to lose anything, but I am unable to, which makes it very hard.

Really. Wow. I started drinking Green Tea about a year ago but stoped, because I was told it wasn't good in excess. I guess I should continue with it. I would take a glass of green tea over a Coke anyday!!! Thanks for sharing!

I never heard of its claim to help, but such a rapid loss would cause me to think that it is due to the diuretic qualities of green tea? tea in general is a diuretic, perhaps green tea boasts even more diuretic prowess. It is a big boon to begin a weight loss endeavor with such a great loss, just do not be too disturbed if a couple of those pounds creep back.

Hello my dear friend. We have some kind of tea on sale in the supermarket called 'weight-losing tea'. But I have never tasted it. I think that tea helps people lose weight and you know that tea is healthy drink. It is my favorite to drink tea either green tea or black tea. I have made it a habit to drink tea while I am working during the day, not in the evening, as it helps keep me awake in the evening if I drink tea. Thanks very much for your discussion, my dear friend. Merry Christmas.

I have heard of that weight loss tea, but I just use the ordinary green tea you get in the store. I do not have trouble not getting to sleep because I am a light sleeper anyway.

You didn't lose 4 pounds from drinking green tea. You probably lost the 4 pounds just because your body has released the fluids you were retaining. When I find I have gained a couple pounds I drink lots of water and the next day I weigh less. When you drink a lot of water it flushes the salt out of your system, which makes you retain your water, which makes you weigh a little more.
But in saying all that, green tea is good for you. It has nutrients in it that helps boost your metabolism. But drinking it in excess doesn't help boost it. You only need to drink about 2 cups a day, one first thing in the morning and one in the evening.
