First of all I want to wish everyone here on MyLot who celebrates CHRISTmas a very Merry CHRISTmas!
Which leads me to this question! What type of gift do you prefer to give? A homemade one, gift card, or a heart felt gift picked just for you.
Then on the other hand which type of gift do you prefer to receive? Is it the same type that you prefer to give?
I prefer to give a homemade gift and as well prefer to receive the same. Because I have done this in the past, I know how much hard work can go into a gift that is made.
So tell me what is your preference and share any gift giving stories that you may have!

hello! A blessed Christmas to you. :-) i always prefer to give something that is a necessity and something that is very useful. I have a lot of godchildren and i always find time to make an extra effort to buy gifts for them. i am not expecting anything in return but id somebody wanted to give a gift for me, i wish it would be something very useful (like books) :-)

Thank you very much for your response. I have to agree with you a useful gift is better that one than is not. I take it you like to read if you find books to be useful!

prEttyNblue, when the kids ask me what I want for Christmas I always answer the same: "Peace and quiet, peace and quiet...aaaaaah!" Just having the kids alive, safe, healthy and happy is blessing enough for me; I really don't need much more. However, I wouldn't turn down a good book, lol.

I prefer to give a gift of something that they can use, but also something that makes them feel good, like a Dvd of their favorite movie, a Cd they can play, a photograph, or a book, not something practical, but something they want to watch or listen to. I prefer to get the same types of gifts myself. I do not care that much for handmade gifts unless it is something I can use like a nice sweater in my favorite color, a linen or lace tablecloth that I can use for company or a bookcase. If you are going to make something, it had better look perfect. If that fails, you can give me a gift card for my favorite store and I will do the same.

I am not that good at sewing, I am good at knitting but I take so long that they would be graduated from high school by the time I finished. I had a friend who was a dressmaker and did not need a pattern. I envied her.

Thank you for your response. I tend to think the gifts I make, only I know where the mistakes are!!!! I am currently crocheting a christening dress for my grandbaby Sophia, I have had lots of compliments on it.

Hello, and firstly, Merry Christmas! :) Well, I'm quite a practical person, so I would prefer to have a gift that I can actually use, rather than something I put there for show. I like gifts that I can use in my daily life.. :) Handmade gifts are okay I guess, shows some thought into it, but I don't really mind thoughtless gifts.. as long I can use them! Like bags.. skincare etc.

Useful gifts are nice! But from reading this discussion here, useful gifts could mean something different to everyone.

Yes, the home made gifts that our children make are always the most treasured gifts to be received.

Hello!!!
Merry Christmas!!
For me I would prefer to give a something which is homemade. I think the person would really appreciate a homemade one because you spent your time and effort working for it. You could also save money when you make something by yourself and at the same time, it would help you to learn how to be resourceful. But this Christmas, I'd chose to buy gifts instead of making them bacause I was so busy and I had no time to make them...but I would really prefer to make than to buy.

Thanks for your response! I wish I would have had time to make some things this year too! Didn't buy for too many either, since there wasn't much money~

I like the kind that are meaningful....that could mean homemade or just thoughtful of the giver. Not everyone is good at making things but they are brilliant when it comes to picking out just the right thing. I like to do the same. Somethings I can make well and other things I'm better off buying. My next secret project is going to be a shelf for s/o's siste. I haven't figured out how I'm going to do it yet but she was teasing s/o about how he e's out of shelf space for it. He laughed and said sorry he wasn't a carpenter. Since this family has no idea what things I really like to do I

Wow, that's messed up. My computer has been acting funny when I'm typing and it must have acted up again...here's the shorter version of what I was trying to say, he bought her something for her collection, she's out of shelf space, I'm going to try to build her a shelf as a surprise.

I know it sounds very materialistic, but I prefer to give and receive gift cards. This allows me (or the person I gave it to) to pick out a gift of their choosing that they want rather than what I necessarily give them. However, I usually give a small gift in addition to the gift cards, so that they have something to open up.

Happy holidays to you terri0824!
Well, about my gift preference.. as much as possible, I wanna have it hand-made. For me, it is more personal and thoughtful since the person who gave that token to you has exerted much effort in making the gift for you. But if ever I'll be given a gift that was just bought from the mall, I would still appreciate it. I'm not really that picky when it comes to gifts. What matters to me is the thought attached to the token. Cheers!

just like you,I prefer handmade gift too.handmade gift gives me very good feeling that makes me believe the friendship with my friend ,the giver,is true and stable.on the other hand,if the present is too expensive,I may consider of the motive of the giver, which will leads my good mood to bad, like the beautiful flower with poisonous sting.
