Is there a certain kind of music that tears you up?

A few weeks ago I responded to a discussion about certain songs that can make you cry. Of course, it seems everyone has a song or two that just pushes them over the edge. This morning I put on the Yahoo free music station and decided to give the 1980s pop station a try. Oh my, what a mistake. I don't know if I am just more vulnerable today because of stress and post-Christmas let down or what, but I don't think they've played a song yet in the last 1.5 hours that I don't have some kind of memory attached to. Did I connect every memory to song? I know that humans have a strong response to music, but I'm wondering if I am the only one who not only has a song that tears me up, but a whole genre?!

My 80's music, especially my lovely Depeche Mode, gets me going... dancing, laughing, energetic. If I need a good cry, its Andrea Bocelli... but they are tears of JOY! I feel the beauty of his voice in my heart and soul.

That's awesome, alamode! I have music that gets me moving from the 80's, too. I had forgotten about that. Mine is the Wilson Philips CD that I can never remember the name of. That's also my "I'm mad and need to get some energy out" CD. I play it at top volume and sing and dance. Oh, gosh, I can't believe I just shared that! LOL

I think the Wilson Phillips is self-titled... and 'Hold On' comes to mind... Share everything! We're all friends here! Nearly everyone knows about my 25-year-long worship of DM... I don't miss a concert, the music is on the stereo or computer all day and night, and the office is FULL of memorabilia... it might be an obsession, but I'm not sure!LOL! My dancing isn't great, but I sing along and laugh at all the good bits... music is meant for us to feel! They may be keeping me young... at least in my heart!

That may be why I can't remember the name of the album! When it doesn't have a name it's kind of hard to remember. LOL Yes, "Hold On" is one of the songs on it.

For me its just a few songs from soft rock and R&B. They can elicit some deeper memories to say the least. Otherwise I'm fine. Well, I'll add that some music doesn't put me into a mood even close to what you've described but it does make me relax or it puts me in a more nostalgic mood.

It's interesting how music can bring up memories. I always said that if I could put my school work to music I would have had it made. Instant recall!
