Lots of vegetables this year. I have a nice yard and love working in it. I'm planning this year, what with the high cost of groceries, to plant a vegetable garden in a good portion of my back yard. I'm going to grow corn, tomatoes, peppers, squash and anything else that I think will grow in West Texas.
Do you plant gardens? What do you grow?

We won't get much of a garden this year because I have it all torn up for my 'raising the beds' project. When I get it finished this spring it will be almost 3 years I worked on it.
My mother used to insist on growing potatoes, but I have nixed that, they might be fun to dig up but they take a lot of space and a lot of work to keep up with the friggin colorado potato beetle that they attract like mad. Plus you can get potatoes year round and they don't taste any different from ones you grow yourself.
I like to grow sunflowers, tomatoes, basil, peppers (both sweet and hot), melons, squash, cilantro, Brussels sprouts, pumpkins, nasturtiums, marigolds and white geraniums(to help with pest control), and carrots (we do a lot of juicing).
I'm into companion planting, and I also plant extra for any bugs that do come along to have a bite too.
I love to freeze up tons of pesto and spaghetti sauce for winter use.
That's all I can think of right now, there is more though.

If I had the space - out yonder - I would plant a garden soooooo big --------and only come inside when I couldn't dig anymore.

Last year I planted my first successful garden, well, semi successful. My cucumbers were stunted and I only got a few peppers- the buds kept falling off the plants. But I am going to try again this year, and hope it is better. I am also going to try carrots and onions. I am keeping it small because if I get too big I am afraid the whole thing will be a flop. So I am going to gradually build up each year, keeping it manageable.

Mine started out small and puny too. But I kept on and on until I figured out what I was doing wrong. Now the garden grows pretty well.

Yes but before when we are still in the province and now how I wish to have one again but since we are now living in the city and I don't have to much space for planting vegetable I can't have a garden now. I really missed eating fresh vegetable from my garden before we have peanuts, corn, squash, eggplant, onions, and many more.

Last year I had an apartment with a yard so I had a garden, but I have since moved. I grew everything. Now I have a really nice big deck, so I thought I'd grow some things out there. Nothing fancy. Maybe a tomato plant, green pepper, herbs, and some flowering plants. I also have 3 nice window boxes. I love growing things, so I will have something out there. Ha ha picture growing a corn stalk in a huge pot. I'd be the envy of my neighbors lol.

Patio or deck plants are great. I've thought about trying to grow things in pots on my patio too. I like the idea of corn in a pot on the patio. How funny. Hey, if it works, you might start a new trend.

I'm mostly doing flowers in my garden, haven't yet found the fascination for veggies I guess although I have lately been getting quite interested in herbs so I might be trying a small herbal garden this summer. My mom is the one growing veggies and such in my family, mostly tomatoes, carrots, onions, peas, potatoes and strawberries.

I have a friend who says, "If you can't eat it, then don't grow it". I think it's because he's more into the cost it takes to water things.
I grow things for myself and family because for several reasons.
1. It tastes better than the veggies you buy at the store
2. I think it's awesome to watch something grow like that
3. It ends up being a bit of a challenge for me.
I have flowers too though. As many as I can.

I would love to grow such a beautiful plant. I don't think such an exotic plant would grow where i live.

I don't have a garden due to lack of time and critters that would take it all down. I'm glad you have the time and effort for this. It is much healthier to grow your own. I hate the fact that the food we buy in the grocery store has been sprayed with pesticides and coated with wax to look nice and appealing. Good luck with your garden and may you have a ton of produce!

Thanks kareng. When you think about what they do to the food in the store it makes you sick - - - literally.
I've always had a garden of some sorts. If nothing else, tomatoes. The cardboard kind in the grocery never have any flavor. And I'm glad I have the time too. I didn't always have that time.

Yes I do plant a garden, but its a small one. I dont have a lot of room for a garden so all I can plant is tomatoes and peppers. I really like tomatoes and peppers. If I had more room I would like to plant cabbage corn, potatos, green beans and watermellon.
