Mega Year End Sale Shopping, Is it a bait to dispose Items?

It is always a practice most of the big malls here in my country that before the year ends, mega sale is the trend.Shoppers are usually thrilled and are impulsive on buying things even items that they don't need.Just because the price tag says, 50% to 75% discount would attract buyers to buy the items, buyers should be aware to double its actual price first. I had one instance experience, I bought a brand new bag before and the price tag to the year end sale is nearly the same price they are selling. It is not even 10% discounted as to the fact of their advertisement megasale of 50-75%discount. So, I learned my lesson that any mega sale is just a bait for shoppers to buy items. Have you had experienced this?If not what are your views on this megasale shopping?

these things are only deceiving.if you would only notice the regular price off season a $10 shirt is actually the same price in their year end sale and just placed a tag there that says $20 regular price less 50% discount and the sale price of $10.they where just baiting people to buy they make them think that they have save a lot when in fact they have saved a penny since they have bought at the same price as in the off season pricing.better be more cautious when going into those kinds of sales.

Sure, I check out prices and compare them before purchasing any of these items!

My understanding is it's against the law to do something such as in the case of the bag you purchased. I love the end of the year sales and over the years have gotten some very very good deals - mainly I think they want to get rid of as much stuff as they can before the end of the year when they have to do inventory or store seasonal items for nearly another year.

oh definitely... that's why i am always being very careful when i see the sale sign... you are right that it is just a bait for the customers to buy stuffs... i always tell myself not to be tricked by this... as long as i don't need the items, i won't buy it even though it is 70% off... my policy is a sale is not a sale unless if you need the goods... it becomes a junk... :-)

Those are just marketing ploys! Nothing else. In many instances, you will find that there actually isn't much in price difference. What happens is usually they hike the prices a little higher around October and then come Christmas time, they "lower" them, when in actual fact they are just reverting to the actual pricing. And many shoppers fall for that. In other instances, they just get to sell you stuff that they have considered junk. In short, here shoppers pay for helping the vendors get rid of junk from their shops!

Make sense.Rather than go to waste, might as well dispose it to be converted into cash.

I don't think it's always just bait. I think a lot of times, retailers will end up with more stock than they anticipated at the end of the year, and in most cases, it costs more to handle the goods and store them until the next season they'll be popular than it does just to heavily discount them to get rid of them. Something similar is true of clothing retailers, as well. Since most want to carry what is trendy and popular and not outdated, they'll often mark down the prices of seasonal items just prior to the end of the season, so they can break even on them instead of being stuck with goods they have no use for and may not be able to sell. That's how I buy most of my clothing.. I'll go into a store before the end of the season to buy for the year ahead and often with 50-75% off sales, I'll walk out with 15 articles of clothing for under $50. I think there are probably some retailers (furniture stores are famous for this!) that will have huge 'sales' where nothing is marked down, or they fabricate a retail price much higher than it actually was, so they can mark it down only a little below what it was actually selling for before the 'sale' so it seems like a great deal.

So, based on your experience, the wardrobe or clothing items have a real markdownood prices than the other items. Very goood tip.I'd like to compare that when I go to the mall!

Well, I agree with you to some extent but not completely. I have different experience in the ongoing year-end mega sales in my country. The brands that I usually used to wear are actually discounted. It might be clearance of the current year stock so that the new stock in the next year could be accomodated. Be it whatever, but I got the real discounts on my brands. I can be sure about these discounts because I used to wear the same brands and hence purchase them regularly. Thats how I could realize that the discounts being offered are actually real ones and the price tags are not tampered (e.g. change the price tag to double first and then offer 50-8-% discount). Although a few of my friends shared with me expereinces similar to yours but mine is different and hence I am happy on my shooping this year end.

That's lucky of you. I guess i have to check out the usual brands I wear to the same brands on year end sale for a point of comparison. Excellent hint nkhanna.
