Nintendo Wii turned out to be great for the family!

I have to admit I was skeptical. We have not had a video game in our home (with mom)since I was a teenager, now my daughter is eight. My x-husband had one and it played a part in our divorce-lol.
My youngest brother wanted one however, he's fourteen. But so many of the games are so violent and we are trying to keep the kids focused on school work and we don't want them sitting on the couch glued to a stupid game for hours!
Well, my aunt finally convinced us to get a Wii telling us it would actually make the kids move around to play and there are some decent games that you can get. She bought it and my mom and I purchased some games and extra remotes and other accessories. Needless to say the kids thought this was the greatest Christmas ever.
We keep it in the family room and we all had a blast playing each other in tennis and basketball and baseball and bowling. The whole family participated and we really enjoyed our time together. So I guess video games aren't so bad.
We have rules though and we only allow certain games in the house just like we do with music and movies. Game play only takes place after homework and chores. Also it is a family game so they are expected to play together and take turns.
I'm optimistic at this point.
I recommend it... my arms were so tired after the first day of play.
Anyone else have a Wii story? What do you think? Any games you suggest that do not have horrific violence?

I have good times on Wii, especially with Wii Sports and their training games. I've gotten some good scores all over the place but a bit sad that some of the games aren't as expansive as I had invisionsed(golf for example). Have you tried the "Determing your Physical Age" session in Wii Sports? You and your family should at least try it one Jaluv.
