What do you do?

I love the new family I have here at myLot. It has brought several hours of fun, noteworthy news and information, lots of tongue-in-cheek humor and made me even more irresponsible to my daily chores. But I feel bad about one thing. Some of my friends posts discussions on topics that I have absolutely no response for. They are about things that happen to probably 90% of us and I always seem to fall into the remaining 10%. I feel bad because they can respond to my discussions but I haven't a clue as to what to say to theirs. Any other 10%ers out there? What do you do? Don't feel bad if you can't find a thing to say. Just nod or something.

10% example: the discussion about what kind of shoe are you? I thought it was metaphoric. Evidently not, according to every response but mine. Kind of funny, and puzzling..... As to being irresponsible, I am the Queen! Since finding this site, I'm stuck on it. As we speak, I'm supposed to be watching "Merlin" on the tube, but here I am, typing this to you. And anything Arthurian takes precedence over anything else.....till now........ Oh boy, another addiction.

So, what kind of shoe ARE you? I find this a gripping topic for finding out the true depth of one's sole. I'll give you some time to kick around a few thoughts, see if you can find one that fits. If you're crammed with ideas, just let them air out a few days. By then, even the big ones should slip right in. I think it best if you use the ones that leave you sufficient wiggle room just in case you need to make a mad dash somewhere. And as for the bad ideas, just give them the boot. Wouldn't want to step on anyone's toes, ya know. Polish your answers so that they will outshine all others. I hope these "tips" will help you get in step. If not, just stomp the competition! Yes. I need help. 1-800-4NO HEELS

Leggy whines! Touche and bravo. The hour is getting too late for me (at least, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it) so I think I should decanter and let myself breathe until the morrow. I love this, I love you, I love that I can do it again in the morning! Don't read too much into that. Till then, I remain, among the 10%.

Aww honey don't feel bad there are those discussions that I read and I just have no way to respond to them and I feel so bad because I love my family here and I know that they make some good discussions but there are some I just don't know what to say to. Don't feel bad it happens to all of us. Take care and I'll see you at the lounge.

LOL!! yep you could certaintly do that , but I wouldn't feel bad if you didn't know anything about the discussion. Sometimes it falls that way. I just had a person over the weekend respond to one of my posts saying she didn't know anything about the discussion and i gave a brief explanation and a link to go to to get more information. I'd be happy to do that for you if you need me to. take care and by the way your awfully cuddly. thanks for tucking me in all those times. see you at the lounge.

Thanks for the encouragement! It becomes frustrating though when 99/100 posts I can't say anything about. I feel like they're thinking I'm abandoning them. Of course I could write: "Don't have anything to say about this. Just thought I'd let you know.".

It happens. Sometimes I'll search through a friend's discussions forever looking for something that I can contribute to in even the smallest way. I've even gone as far as to sympathize and admit I have no solution to offer. Sometimes it's hard to reciprocate. Don't beat yourself up over it.

Wow! I'm sorry I've missed that! The RGuy speecheless...putting a gold star on the calendar so we can remember to commemorate this moment this time next year! hahahaha I've missed your humor, btw.

I wasn't quite beating myself up over it. I just felt completely lost as to how, out of so many topics one in particular posted, I hadn't the slightest idea of how to respond to them. Usually, given such a vast variety, I can find SOMETHING to say. But until just last week, I have been speechless. Just so odd a position for me to be in.

That's my feeling about mylot as well. Here I am, typing away and ignoring the housework that needs to be done :-) To respond to the second part of your post, most of the people in my friends list are younger than I am and so most of the things that they post about have little or no relevance for me. I don't worry about it, I have more important things to worry about and if one of them does post something that I feel that I can comment on, then I'll do so.

That's a very well adjusted attitude! I feel guilty about not being able to identify with their posts though. Here we are "friends" yet I have nothing to say about what they've said. Kind of awkward for me. I keep thinking "there must be something!" But with no kids, no wife, no family intrusion into the personal life, no snow, etc., I keep coming up short for responses. Guess I'll just have to grin and bear it.

i have trouble answering some of the intelligent discussions but can reply to the more down to earth ones. i guess i fall into the 10% as i trawl for ages before picking one that i think i can contribute. then it turns out i have written sarky drivel. oh well, such is life!

Sarky drivel is most welcome here, seeing as to how I've yet to post an intelligent discussion. And as far as the "earthy" thing goes, hey! - I'm the D11R guy! Can't get much earthier than that! So feel free to post as much earth shattering drivel as you can shovel. I'm sure I can find a place to put it.

Ok, I admit my ignorance. What is a D11R? Can someone enlighten me, please. I'm sorry that I don't know this already.

There are so many different discussions, I seem to be able to always participate in a few....but there is no way I can participate in all, that is just the reality we have to live with. I am trying to respond to a discussion started by each person who has responded to my latest one. This should be a challenge, but so far, so good.

It's odd, isn't it? So much information we all have in our minds. So many experiences, knowledgeable reads, true life events and stories from others. Yet we can read a post here and be completely dumbfounded despite our huge database. Doesn't compute, does it? Nice to know I'm not the only CPU still running in 16 bit. C:\EXIT

I've actually not had this problem in terms of my responding. I can respond to a wealth of ranging topics. If its an established interest group I'm either there or I've been there some time. Turn the perspective though and I can see what's happening when it comes to my own discussions. I've started some discussions only .0001% can answer (or maybe choose to answer). If there is a discussion I really can't answer, I won't. Other times I do try to put something to relate to the topic. Its rare, but it does happen.
