I am. Either the husband is made to look like he never know anything about cooking or cleaning. Or he is portrayed like he can't make a decision on his own.I am sick and tired of it. There are men who can cook and clean and they can make decisions. It is like they think men Only know about beer, lawns, and BBQs . And women know about cooking and cleaning? That's so wrong. There are plenty of men who clean and women who BBQ. Is it that the suits in Madison ave think they have to make men look stupid to sell things?Wrong. If the commerical demeans men, I don't buy the product.

I think this portrayal is wrong and very outdated. A few years ago it might have been socially accepted but this is no longer the case. The individuals with these ideas for commercials are very out of touch with the world they live in today. The roles of a male or female no longer seem to exist and I think it is great that we are getting closer to equality between both sexes.

Where do i get me one of those who cooks and cleans! lol I think i must have gotten mine from the slightly defective bin when shopping for husbands lol. Mine doesn't clean or cook very often at all. In fact, i think i can count on one hand how many time i've seen him do a rack of dishes. I have seen him cook, but only on rare occassions. And we dont own a bbq so neither of us do that. I addmit he is neither braindead nor stupid, After all.. he's gotten out of doing the dishes and cleaning for 5 years. . LOL.

I dont think that all "commercial men/husbands" are stupid..but yea a good portion of them are....I wouldnt say I'm sick of it mind you..Of course my husband and I get a kick out of it sometimes because when the commercial husband is being childish (like for a hotel chain but I forget which one..the husband is jumping on the bed and then dancing in the background etc or the commercial where the husband is playing airguitar while paying the bills) we both KNOW...thats ME and my husband is the "sensible wife"! LOL

I agree with you on this subject. However i think it's not righteous to complain about it because women are treated like that in the same way. We're not able to build a car or to fic a car because it's a men job and bla bla bla. We're not able to work as much though more women are reaching the top. Don't they sell car stuff only for men i mean that's how they put it in the commercials. So women are still connected to the fact that they have to do the household and men have to work while sometimes it's switched because some men are a stay home dad and and some mothers work instead of staying home. If they have to change the commercial for men then they have to change the commercials for women too.Right?

Sure why not. Most women Do work outside the home these days . And The " stay at home Mom" isn't at home all day.She usually drives, so why not gear car commericals toward women. And there are more men who stay at home or are single fathers. These guys aren't dumb. They know more about house work than some single working women.

You're not the only one Sarah. Here are a couple of posts on a blog about it. http://glennsacks.com/blog/?p=1533 - Irobot product http://glennsacks.com/blog/?p=1364 - Windex The worst part is, the companies keep doing it, and there are people who don't think this issue is a big deal. Oh and consider if the roles were reversed by gender when looking at those commercials, TV shows and other things in this subject in general. Do you think the companies would get away with it scotfree in that case? Doubt it.

NOW would come down on them like rain. But it is okay to demean men to sell women products. This has been a pet peeve of mine for about 20 years now.Back then like now I just boycott the product until the commerical is off the air. Now with the internet, I may just write them a email and tell them that their commerical is having the opposite effect, it makes me Not want to buy it.

Good for you! I have wonderful hubby. Sometimes he cooks. Sometimes he cleans. We try and have a joint effort. I tend to agree. Except you forgot about the feminine product commercials. LOL Case and point. My husband doesn't BBQ. More than likely he could fix your computer though. Good trade!

I think the suits on Madison Avenue think we all fit into the stereotypes for both men and women. I make up my mind whether to buy lots of different products based on whether I approve of the commercial or not. Humor is one thing but demeaning people is another altogether and I don't like it, no matter who the target is. Annie

Good point! I don't watch alot of television but next time I do I'll take note of the commercials....and you are right. My son for one is the one who cleans the house and probably knows more about cleaning products then his wife!

I don't watch TV much - nothing worth watching any more. But from ones I have seen occassionally, I don't know abuot hte stupid husband, but I do notice that the wives are always the pretty ones and the husband is the frumpy one. You never see it the other way around, handsome husband, frumy wife. The wife is perfect size, husband is always over weight. Not that I care one way of the other, but it just gives the conotation that you can't be a wife unless you are pretty. Or handsome men won't have a frumpy wife, but a pretty woman will have a frumy man. When Ugly Betty came on I thought it'd be a turn around, but it is in a way, but not that says anything. Who'd she pair up with? Not a hot guy, but another frumpy guy like her. Both have good hearts and are talented, but not the looks. I guess I get tired of seeing nothing but gorgous women on TV - what about those that aren't? I am sure they can act just as well as the pretty ones.

I hate it. The women are always dressed in slacks, a sweater and a nice shirt and they're on their knees scrubbing toilets or cleaning nasty kitchens. I have never once dressed up to scrub crap out of my toilet. Just once, I'd like to see a commercial for Soft Scrub featuring a man dressed up in a 3 piece suit scrubbing soap scum out of the bathtub. I know women are typically the domestic portion of the relationship, but it's almost as if TV is stuck back in the 50s where women stayed at home, wore gingham dresses, high heels and an apron and were always seen cooking the perfect roast or meatloaf in the oven.
