Ok, guy. I need you to be open minded.
What do you think when I say my most favorite FOOD is DOG?
What do you think about dog eating?
I'm from Vietnam, and it's a very common thing in my country. But I know in the Western world, you guy just love dog, and dog is your friend. I have an American friend, and he has 20 dogs! If one of them die, he will feel very terrible!
But, well, dog is still my favorite food. And that's one of the most thing I miss when I stay here, in America right now!
So, what's your opinion about this?

I think it is rather odd, dogs have shared a way of life with man since prehistory, it is a bit like cannibalism.
Secondly, a carnivore required more resources to grow, so raising them for food is inefficient in terms of meat produced per unit of land.

I wouldn't tell any of your new friends in America because that's sort of a turn-off. In America, which im sure you've noticed, almost everyone has a dog or two and they don't raise them to eat. Telling people in the US that you eat dogs is affensive like eating cows in- wherever cows are sacred. Hope that helps.

I don't think dog is something I would personally try but if you like it, fair enough. I've always thought of it in a way that different people are brought up with different things and sometimes those things seem weird to others. The most unusual food I have eaten is kangaroo but I guess to an Australian, that would be normal as to you, eating dog is normal. As far as I am concerned, animals are there to be eaten and if they are not poisonous then I see no reason not to try them. I wouldn't personally try French delicacies such as snails, horse and frogs legs but they are available and acceptable. I'm sure the main reason for dog not being accepted as food in Western countries is because they are seen as pets and, to some people, they are thought of as almost human but dogs are animals the same as any other. As I say, I don't think I would try it myself but there are certainly some dogs which would make better meals than pets!

Okay will I am sure my answer will not be very popular but I I would rather eat dog then rat! Yes I heard a man talking once about the time he was in another country and they served him rat. He didn't think he could do as his stomach turned and turned but he managed to eat it and keep it down as not to insult the people feeding him the meal. I never ever want to be in that predicament. As much as I hate to think of eating dog I have to admit I would have an easier time of doing it then a RAT and only if I felt there was not choice!

I have to say that when reading this discussion it really just grosses me out. No offense to you or any other country that thinks a dog is a delicacy, but honestly dog was meant for human companionship....not to eat. I have visited the Philippines and absolutely refused to eat any meat what so ever because I know that they eat dog there. I think it's cruel and nasty. I'm sorry if i sound rude, but it really isn't a common thing and like someone else pointed out...i wouldn't tell to many people in America that you eat dog. It's a very touchy subject with a lot of us, especially since most dog lovers find their pets to be more like children than just an animal. God bless

Hi nthoangga,
I am not surprised or shocked to hear about eating dog meat. Vietnamese are not the only people who eat dog meat, but also people in Thailand, Cambodia, China, and many other Asian and African countries. In Singapore no-one eats dog meat. People don't even kill or sell because it is against the government law. If a person kills a dog he/she will be arrested and live behind prison bars. Frankly speaking, dogs are not meant for food, they are meant for human good companion. In the Western or European countries they don't eat dog meat because they are much much more civilized than most of the Asian countries. I don't think civilized nation/people would ever eat this kind of meat. My opinion is that it is so cruel and dirty to EAT DOG MEAT. I hope I am not too rude with my words, please forgive me if I were so.

You probably ate dog meat in your country and got used to it because you were poor then and didn't have a lot of choices.I think dog eating is discusting. When you say your favorite food is dog in the United States then some people
are going to think you are mentally crazy.Nobody that was born in the United States would ever think of eating a dog
unless there was something wrong with them mentally.Your friend has too many dogs. Most people here only own one or two dogs as pets.If you had been born in the United States and had never eaten dog you would never think of doing that. You would think it was a very horrible thing to do.Its hard to have an open mind about that but I can understand that it was
in your culture.I think if you are going to live here that you should try and forget about dog meat.People love their
dogs and cats here. Here it is an unthinkable thing to do.
