Are there characters in your favorite tv programs that you really hate?

One of my favorite tv programs is King of Queens and I have to tell you that I think the writers could have toned down the character of Carey's father. I'm sure it has something to do with Jerry Stiller playing the part because even as Georges' father in Seinfeld he was very often a cantankerous old man and that's what he does best. Lately though he's been getting on my nerves more often than not. The man seldom if ever has a nice word to say to anyone and even when he does it's not for the right reasons.
Do you have a favorite program with a character that you can't stand? Could it be that these people are a part of the reason why we like that program?

No i cannot think of any right off hand.I watch that show King Of Queens, and i know he is a nasty old man but i think that is just part of his role..I doubt that he is really that bad in person. They often use a nasty person in some of those shows...I don't know why..

I'm sure he isn't anything like that in person. I used to enjoy his stand up act with his wife Anne Meara. They made a great team.

I enjoy soaps when I have the time to watch them. The Young and the Restless is one of my favorites along with The Bold and the Beautiful. I hate Victor and I hate Stephanie. But I'll have to admit, the shows wouldn't be worth watching without them.

I haven't watched soaps since I was in my 20's! They are the type of shows who need villains and irritating people to keep the viewers coming back.

Well, by now I can't really say it's a favorite program, but even back when I really liked Grey's Anatomy, I hated Derek Sheperd and Izzie Stevens. The thing is, I have nothing against the actors (and I think Patrick Dempsey is good looking and a good actor with the right character). But, I find those characters to be two of the most unpleasant people on tv. I can see what you mean about characters you can't stand being the reason to like a program, but I don't think it applies in my case. Because the writers expect the audience to love these characters. So, I like the show in spite of them, not because of them.

Actually, I hate to see good actors getting terrible lines or just not getting many lines at all on a show. We really see this on many shows with a few older actors.
One example is Ron Rifkin on Brothers and Sisters, who is a great actor, but received better lines on Alias. He has been acting for many years and should be getting great lines on Brothers and Sisters.
I don't hate any character just think a few should be getting better lines. There is always suppose to be an evil character in a show because then you want to see bad things happen to them.

Now I think Jerry Stiller is hilarious in the show and Carrie I like but her attitude really gets on my nerves, always b*tchy and I watched some show with her bio and she's kinda like that.I still like Grey's but Meredith I guess is the main character in a way but it's always about her and she's awful whiney.October Road is another favorite but I'n not fond of Hannah, who played Donna on That 70's Show,I liked her on that but not too much on this show.

I'm going to have to check out October Road! Donna on that 70's show was one of my favorites and I can't find any of those performers anywhere any more.

I have to agree with you, ctry, and I would also lament the lack of GOOD comedy shows that are out there now. I think it is that something within us that loves to hate the "bad guy." There used to be plenty of them to go around(especially in soap operas), but the current crop of comedy shows have little appeal. Jerry Stiller does play the role of the cantankerous old man to the hilt, lol. I'll bet he's a real teddy bear in real life.

I love All My Children, but I can't stand the character Bianca. She is so saintly and preachy that it drives me crazy! Even worse, the actress who plays her really can't act!

I thought I'd have something totally great to answer to this... but I don't. I don't think there has ever been someone I absolutely hated on a show... people I don't like sure but nothing major.
If I don't like people in a program I probably wouldn't watch it unless there was someone in there worthy enough to make me want to watch it.
