Hi! That makes sense to me, although I'm not opposed to Altantis having been a different place. I wonder if we'll ever really know.

Well that all depends upon which theory of Atlantis you believe.
If you think Plato was telling the truth in Timaeus and Critias then Atlantis is located somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
One of the more likely places would be around the Azores Islands. The Azores are a group of islands belonging to Portugal located about 900 miles (1500 km) west of the Portugese coast. Some people believe the islands are the mountain tops of the sunken continent of Atlantis.
On the other hand, if you feel that Atlantis was an exaggeration of the historical destruction of Thera and the Minoan empire, then it is found in the Aegean.
The island of Thera, also known as Santorini, is a volcanic island located due north of Crete in the Aegean Sea. Sometime around 1500 BC is was devasted by a volcanic explosion that may have contributed to the sudden downfall of the Minoan civilization.
But, if you believe Atlantis was simply a story then it was only located in the long decayed brain of Plato.

I remember learning about the "steps", I don't remember where they were located, perhaps off the coast of Crete? Greece?

In The Bermuda Triangle?
Just a theory of mine...
Do I believe? I keep an open mind, there's every possibility it does exist.

The existence of Atlantis is highly improbable. The only historical reference made to Atlantis was in Plato's two dialogues Timaeus and Critias. I believe that Atlantis merely served as a background for these dialogues. I do however believe that the story of Atlantis is an exaggeration on the fall of the Minoan civilization and the destruction of the volcanic island Thera. A volcanic eruption on Thera left half of the island to sink into the ocean which undeniably resembles the tale of Atlantis. Plato claimed that he had heard the story from his great great great great grandfather (how I'm not sure) who had first heard it in Egypt. Since the Ancient Egyptians were not a sea-faring civilization, it is hard to determine the actual origin of the tale. However, there is much documented proof of trade between the Ancient and Egyptians and the Minoans. The Egytians would have been well aware of the devastation done to their trading partner which explains where the story originated. As we know, oral repetition, through storytelling often gets exaggerated. There has also been evidence of an advanced civilization found around the Minoan ruins. Plato definitely stated that the Atlanteans were an advanced civilization. There are also various dates that match up which I will not go into great detail. I hope this was informative.

I forget where Edgar Cayce said it would be found.. in '69. And in 1969 they found a ridge or road under sea.. not sure where..
I think it has to do with the city Cain built.. They were said to be very smart and developed things quicker than the other (contented) tribe.. [That's what I heard anyway..]

I think Edgar Cayce may have mentioned Bimini, but I may be wrong.

I think that Atlantis did exist somewhere near the Mediterranean Sea and that some cataclysmic event sent it into the sea. We have coastal cities here in the US that scientists predict will be effected in just this same manner if certain natural events take place to cause it. Anything is possible in this world.

Yes, we have many coastal cities globally that will be affected if there were to be a massive glasiar melt.

Yes and No. I do believe that there were many advanced societies that we have very little knowledge of. As was mentioned in one of the previous posts, Plato and many other writers, legends, myths, etc. refer to Atlantis. However, I'm willing to bet that the information that we have on it is not 100% accurate...As with anything else...Time, perspective, interpretation all lead to some amount of disinformation. I personally don't think it has anything to do with the Bermuda Triangle though. (Something is going on there though.)

Well, yes, without historical documentation, myths evolve.

Sure, I beleive in the Atlantis. My husband is big on that. He's reading all these books about Atlantis and where it is located or where the scientists think it's located. I think it's located somewhere in South America.

I'm not sure if I believe in Atlantis or not. I lean towards yes because of the different historical things and people that show evidence of it. I dont believe it is everything that we have made it out to be today. It was probably a city in its time that was very advanced but today we have made it into some sort of mystical city that was far beyond our imagination. I saw a piece of a show on the discovery channel about a possible location for it. They found a city under a piece of land that was cut off from water but when they looked back in history it used to be right on the edge and fit all the requirements for a location of Atlantis. I wish I could remember where they said it was! LOL
