Teachers are always diligent. They always have so much work to do.Even if in mid-night they are still working . How many hours does a teacher work in your country? I wonder if a teacher always works overtime in every country.

It is so hard to put a hour amount to this because it varies so much from teacher to teacher outside of the regular day. Some teachers I have seen set up their class in such a way that as soon as the bell rings to end the day, they are done until the next day, whereas others bring home papers to grade and plan their lessons for the next day which would mean considerable time at home.

I agree with the comment. But this depend on the student you teaching.I come from a polytechnic school of china.Students of some classes are easy teaching, because they work hard, but others don't .

Teachers work really hard! In our country India, teachers work for different amounts of time depending on the place they teach. - A school teacher has to work for around 6 hours. - A University teacher works for around 8 hours. This is the official working hours. Apart from this, teachers have to invest around 2-4 more hours from their personal time for preparing for lessons and evaluation purposes. The actual thing is that Teachers think round the clock about the students and their teachings!

In the schools i've been to the teachers started work at 7am - 8am and usually finished work around 6pm. They work from monday - friday. They probably plan the lesson abit in their spare time, and they have 1 dinner break and 2 other short breaks in the day. Some teachers only work part time so they will probably only work half the amount of time as the full time teachers. ~Joeys wife

I work as a teacher, teaching university students. Teaching really entails diligence and hard work. It is beyond the four walls of the classroom. It also involves a lot of preparation. In the Philippines, we are required to stay 40 hours per week in the office. However, I teach 16 hours per week. The extra time is alloted for preparing teaching materials, reading, and researches. Before, I used to work as a researcher but I find teaching more challenging as I am dealing with people and the change that I will be bringing about. In effect, I should continually challenge myself to learn as much as I can to effect a change in my society.

Although I do not agree that teachers are always diligent, and it would depend much on the age group and subject matter they teach, from my own experience and that of others I know, probably between 50 and 70 hours per week, but this would NOT include the learning time someone here mentioned, which truly is impossible to calculate, or the time shopping for supplies which many teachers have to purchase on their own time and with their own money. In the past, again depending on the age group and subject matter, though, teachers did get generous amounts of paid vacation time off--up to 5 months in some cases, although of course, diligent teachers spent much of their vacation time working. Student contact hours are just a small part of a teacher's work.

Hello,Bluestream! in India the teachers work normally 4/5 hours for teaching in the schools and colleges.and because of low income they engage themselves in private tutorials during off hours for another 4/5 hours.besides they have to spend another 2/3 hours for preparations for the next day classes.it might be the case of teachers in other countries.however, the condition of teachers in India is not good compared to other countries.thank you.good luck.

Here in China, the expectation for foreign teachers is about 25 teaching hours per week. Considering office hours and preparation time, this number can go up to 40 hours a week but schools are often flexible about when you come in and when you leave. However, I like to stay around my school to chat with the students to help them with their English speaking and especially their confidence levels. I feel like I'm almost always on the clock because once I'm around a student, I have to put on my teacher face, use my teacher voice, and things like that.
