Keeping Butter

Do you keep your butter in the cabinet in the Fridge or on the Counter?
Does it depend on the season?
It gets really hot and humid here in the summer months and I fear the butter going rancid so I used to always keep my butter in the fridge during the hot months...
I would keep the butter on a glass plate (not sure why I never got accustomed to using a butter dish) on the counter top during the other months of the year.
This summer, however, I purchased a butter bell - you keep a little water in the crock and put the butter into the bell - then you invert the bell into the water. This functions much like a crock water cooler and works quite well at keeping the butter at a spreadable consistency.
I like it so much but I think I am going to look at buying a larger one - we seem to go through it faster now!
have you ever heard of or used a butter bell?

my grandmother had something like a dish with a cake cover..kind of bell shaped-but i don't remember her putting water in it.
we keep ours in the fridge-more to keep the butter loving felines out than temp worries :)

Well that is news to me; a butter bell. Since I am a gadget lover this is very appealing to me. I have always kept my butter on the counter in a old fashioned glass butter dish. My mother just always kept it on a saucer. However I do put it in the fridge when it is so hot that the butter starts to get to soft and I worry about it when the butter is left out in warm weather. A butter bell, I am so excited!

yes!!
it really is a neat gadget! but like I said the I bought is not quite big enough. Maybe I should have two that way when one gets emptied there is another on the ready. I really like having the butter ready to spread - no tearing up the bread when you use a butter bell. :)
We do not have any special stores anywhere near us, but I would imagine any of those kitchen type stores would carry this product. I had to order mine - I got it off amazon.com because I had some credits there to spend and was ordering something else so the shipping was free.

I have never heard of such fantastic butter bell. I would like to have a look of it if it is available in our hypermarket here. I always keep the butter in the fridge. I usually take the butter out from the fridge half an hour before having our breakfast. So it is soft enough for us to spread on the toasts.

I always store my butter in the fridge. When I begin to prepare a meal, I set it on the table to soften while I cook. After the meal, it goes back into the fridge

Reading this post was the first time I ever heard of a butter bell. It actually sounds rather interesting.
My family tends to keep butter in the fridge (as the only time it gets used is for the occasional "rich" dish or heavy baking ... which isn't often.) I tend to use margarine for my day to day needs. ^.^;;;;
