Would you have liked to wear uniforms at school?

In my country we use uniform only in primary school, but I would have liked it also in junior high and high school. Less time to think how to dress in the morning and more equality between people (fashion fights were common in my class, LOL) What do you think?

I don't like wearing uniforms in school. I want to wear what I want to wear because you can tell what kind of a person is someone by the way he or she dress. Thats my opinion anyway.

In my country, uniform is a must 'til college and I really don't have a stable opinion about its necessity.Uniforms are somehow a way to prohibit diversity and impose society to be same for their safety. However they are useful for authority as people wont be able to realize differences between classes within the society or it will be less noticable.ohh and thank god I had to wear one one of them during high school, other way I would not be able to graduate(now I can get ready for school at least in an hour:)

I went to Fremont Christian High School. We wore Sue Mills uniforms, and I loved them. I liked the khakis so much that I don't wear blue jeans anymore. :)

No, it was already awefull when I had to put that stupid "dress" in kindergarten! Luckily I didn't have uniform in primary school like you. And not everywhere in Italy (you live in Italy right?) there are uniforms in primary school, I think only a few still have them and I'm pretty sure nowhere here where I live!Yay! Maybe only private schools... But you're right when you say "more equality" so noone looks at you for what you wear... But I would have hated it... when I was in England and I saw all those kids with uni in July (how can they still go to school in July??) and the girls with a skirt (I hate skirts) to go to school... well I would have skipped school if I was obliged to wear one! I really hope they can wear pants, too (I mean where the uni is compulsory...) but maybe that's just me and my hate for skirts^___^

Hi eiencafe ^__^ Yeah I'm italian and in my elementary schools there were uniforms (they were horrible by the way). I would have loved to have good uniforms like in USA or in Japan. I'm not used to wear a skirt too but maybe if I used it in childhood I would be more used to that ^___^

LOL you don't like the idea very much don't you? xD Maybe the better thing would have been if you could choose between schools with uniforms and without it. I would have chosen uniforms ^__^

but everyone will wear the same thing and that takes away our originality. yes there will still be "fashion fight" but do you think just because everyone dress the same no one will be made fun of? you cant hide your fat you cant hide your moles you cant hide your warts. kids are mean and theyll disect you any chance they get.

I agree that some kids will always act as jerks no matter what, but at least you avoid the problem of choosing cool clothes (above all if you are a lazy dresser like me :D )

The catholic schools wear uniforms in our district. But my highschool(which is public) also wears uniforms. I don't complain about it though. People at my school always find a way to work around making their uniforms to their liking.

There is also one more positive thing about uniforms. Nowadays kids are so competitive about the clothes and brands they wear that sometimes they end up being cruel to the ones that don't have or can't have those special brands. A uniform would balance that. I know some people are against uniforms because they feel that they limit each kids individuality and personality, but it's the contrary. NO kid uses the same uniform the same way. They personalize, change, add, complement showing their different personality trough those changes. The only problem with uniforms, and that's a big one in my opinion is their prices. In here students in catholic schools do have to wear uniforms, and the first time I saw the prices for those uniforms I almost had a heart attack !!!! LOL

Yes, I guess you're right. It's just that or me the time that school starts has been one of the worse financially for me for the last years. ANd the thought of having to spend all that money at one time is stressing for me LOL If my life was back to normal I guess it wouldn't be as much of an issue:)

Are they expensive? How much? Well but if you buy only 2-3 of them it's still better than thousand stylish clothes :)

I totally agree with you. Kids get made fun of because their parents cannot afford to buy them the top of the line clothes. Here in the US we do not have uniforms except if you go to a private school and private schools cost a lot of money.

Hello dear Rowena. When I was at school, we did not have any school uniforms. But now uniforms are demended to wear by students. I think that it is a good idea because this way the students do not have to always think about what kind of clothes they are supposed to wear to school and no one is able to tell the difference of being a poor and rich student. It also helps reduce their attraction to fashionable clothes that would influence their study as they are supposed to pay more attention to their study than fashionable clothes. Thanks so much for the discussion.

In my case it was the opposite, I went to a private christan school from kindergarden through 12th grade. In elementary school we did not wear uniforms, well untill 4th or 5th grade i think they changed the policy, it was easyer, not worrying about who's family was able to afford what brand of clothes etc.

hey its not about do u like it or not.... uniform is there only to maintain equality in this highly fasionable world... so its better to uniform till high school and more i.e., +1 & +2...... i think uniform doesnt suit college students, because they will be matured till they reach that stage.. and there would be no differentiability between students...

I really can see both sides of this discussion. On one side, having a dress code would reduce the amount of teasing that occurs because of the way that someone dresses, but on the other, I would become rather bored of wearing the same clothes every day, and seeing everyone else wearing them as well. All in all, I would have to go with NO uniforms.

The only uniform I ever had to wear in school was for band lol. My school was talking about making uniforms mandatory, but that would've been after I had already graduated. My mom had to wear a uniform in Catholic school and she said she hated it lol! She hated having to wear the skirt.

I had to wear uniform in middle school and I liked it very much. I think uniforms are alright. I didn't need to think what to wear and in high school I had a feeling that I was on a fasion show and not in the place I was supposed to study. Besides, I didn't feel that a piece of cloth would kill my personality, like many of my friend did :P

You're right. I'm envious, I would have liked uniforms in school too. YES Wearing a cloth doesn't kill your ego *if* you have a personality, and I bet a lot of stylish chicks on my class would have been killed

In the Philippines, we wear uniforms from high school to college. But when I had my college in the university of the philippines, we wear anything that can be comfortable.Fashion was not that big deal as long as you got good grades, that was what matters

I used to wear school uniforms from elementary to high school since we are required to. During college, only the girls are required to wear uniforms. Its kinda frustrating because I preferred to wear one just to save money from buying plain clothes to wear in going to school. This time the university where I graduated requires everybody to wear uniforms already. Good for them.

I never was against school uniforms. i kinda liked the thought of wearing something systematic, and something you didn't have to worry about every morning. I'm not a fashionist, maybe thats why I do like to wear uniforms to schools. They induce discipline and ensure that everybody is equal at school. Although I used to just tweak the uniform a bit to look different from others.
