three hours ago, my husband and i removed and kept into the storage room the christmas tree and all things christmas we used in decorating the house for the holiday season, including the letters and cards my daughter made for us and santa claus. all of a sudden, i felt lonely, really lonely i was on the verge of tears and even as i write this, as i think about the activity of taking away all those cheerful christmas things, i feel a deep sense of emptiness and loneliness which i just cannot explain. is this depression? why should i feel this way? is this healthy?

Hi goodtimegirl,
It is a natural phenomenon that we feel empty after a festival or a function. the feelings of emptiness and loneliness does not come under depression. They just go away after few days, because we know that another festival or function is going to come. These feelings will not have any effect on the health. It happens to everyone.
I am very happy to note from from you that you have stored the christmas tree and other all things in a room, but I have noted that they were kicked to the streets so soon.
In fact it is good to keep them until a next festival.
Good Luck.

I keep our Christmas decorations up for all of December and most of January. I thought it was kind of sad to see Christmas trees on the curb the day after Christmas. It can be depressing to come of the "high" of holiday celebrations. It's important, I think to try to celebrate ordinary days too, to show appreciation for others throughout the year whether that's a letter, a call, a gift...not just on holidays.
