Are you a chatterbox?

Chatterbox - Talks 19 to the dozen!

I have to admit I am one (though it has come down throughout the years). I was once paid by a friend to keep quiet on a car trip (this was around 20 years back..lol). I can talk nineteen to the dozen when I want to. There are times when I prefer to be alone with my thoughts though. My kids seem to have taken after me...the 13 month old picks up the phone and talks like he has something important to say to someone. What about you? Are you a chatterbox? Or are you the listener or can't stand someone like me?

I can be a chatterbox at times. And when that happens, there's no stopping me. But sometimes I really don't have a lot to say... My husband thinks it hilarious being around my family because we all just talk talk talk all at the same time. And we all know what everyone else is saying.

lol..my husband needs to know everything...so he asks me when we are alone or when we get home. But it's so funny when everyone's talking together and here's my husband sitting there with a blank expression! The only time he ever gets to join in is when everyone starts singing (which is everytime after everyone finishes talking and eating)

Happens in my large extended family too...and we get together a couple of times in a year and everyone's talking all at once. And my husband has to wait till we get back home to ask me what everyone's up to!!

Yeah, my hubby misses so much of the conversation too. He figures if it's important I'll tell him about it :)

Though I love to talk..yet I would not say that I am a chtter box. I love the compnay of those, who keep on talking....because I do not like that two people are sitting together and they are silent. I would love to listen to others in the conversation.I try to give ample opportunity to my friends and near and dear ones to tell their side of story. I hear them very patiently, then only I tell story of my side. Wish one day...I could be your side and listen to you.......LOL!

lol...I am not as talkative when I am with a person I don't know too well. Like someone pointed out not everyone likes people who talk too much. So I try to see if the other falls in the listener category before I start rambling..lol

On the contrary, I am a good listener and kind of talk very less, literally. I would hardly talk out of the way, out of turn and when I am supposed to talk I give the synopsis in precise, brief words. No wonder, I am appreciated at my workplace but you can imagine the plight of family and friends who would get utmost curious to make me speak. lol.. But then they love me for this only. They would confide in me anything and everything and I love them for that. And see, you are a chatterbox! no wonder you are my friend. All my friends are so vibrant and always bubbling with more words to befit their thoughts. *laughs* Love you the way you are!

lol...yes we chatterboxes need the quieter ones to be our friends! Who else would patiently listen to us blabber non-stop? Having said that and having read a few posts, I find I am not as bad as I thought! I actually stop long enough for someone to respond...lol

I don't know if I'd call myself a chatterbox...though others might I don't know LOL. But I do have my moments! And I am a piss poor listener and am always struggling to be a better listener. It's just that I've got thoughts running a mile a minute nearly all the time in my head. So much so it's hard to sleep at times or concentrate and focus.

LOL--you would probably drive me nuts then!! Hehee only kidding--I'm the complete opposite of a chatterbox...maybe because I was an only child and grew up pretty much alone. I mean I have no problem about communicating my thoughts, but maybe since I can express myself better through writing I make up for my verbal communication by writing...for instance I do write short stories..uh, right..the shortest is about twenty pages long, while the longest is about 70 pages long..

lol...I was like an only child till I was in high school (my sister is 7 years younger and we lived in two different worlds for the major part of our childhoods). So, I was practically talking to myself at first. I remember writing a lot when I was a teenager...and hmmm..come to think of it...I didn't talk too much then. It probaby started again when I stopped writing. I would move my hands a lot when I used to talk and my husband would say, 'the only way to get her to shut up is to hold her hands' (well, that's another topic for discussion)

Well, I'm a mix of the two. I'm a good listener and I like to talk. Luckily, people don't see me as annoying as I thought they would. Sometimes I even annoy myself to a point where I'm literally saying "Shut up." to myself. Quite weird and quirky if you ask me.

hi viswan! no i am not a chatterbox. most of the time, i am too lazy to talk. but sometimes, when i am really comfortable, i let my guard down and talk freely. but i talk with consideration to others. like i don't talk too loudly especially when i am in a public place. or i don't talk when the church service is going on, or when somebody else is talking, like on a stage. i think it is really rude to continue talking when others are talking as well--even if they are not talking to us personally. God bless you! :-) take care...

Oh yes...we should take others into consideration. I do not talk and disturb others. But when I am with friends and I know they are not busy, I usually do a lot of talking.

I am neither. I am not a chatterbox, I am not the listener to a chatterbox, and I don't hate chatterboxes.I never talked that much. I never went though the talikng on the phone phrase when I was a teen. In fact I hate telephones.I don't have to listen to any chatterboxes so I don't know if it would get on my nerves.

hi sviswan! ^__^ i only become a chatterbox when i get drunk. and it still depends on the mood during the drinking "session". ^__^;; if the mood is happy, i will talk and laugh as if there's no tomorrow. LOL but if the mood is serious, even if i'm drunk i'll have the control to keep my thoughts in my mind. ^__^ i get talkative too when i'm feeling hyperactive because of something very good that happened. but during normal times, i talk less and usually prefer to stay quiet and just react when needed. ^__^

lol..I tend to repeat myself when I am drunk and talk non-stop and no one can get a word in! That's why I make sure I don't get drunk anymore...everyone needs a chance to talk..lol

I like to talk as much as the next person, but I like it even more when someone will do all the work & I only have to grunt a few times to keep them going. So long as they don't repeat themselves too often. I've learned a few conversation starters, then I can sit back & let others talk. Well, it works for me, I'd probably like you...LOL

It is very funny to hear that you got paid because you are talkative:) I will be talkative to my good friends. As to the strangers or someone who I don't like, then I don't want to speak more. My dad is a real chatterbox and he can talk to anyone for a whole day without feeling tired. In the New Year holiday, he ever spoke to my husband until 5am next day. The result is both of them were tired. And my dad felt sick after that.

I am a chatterbox, too. I go places and talk to people I don't even know. It used to be that everyone was like me, now when I go to the store, some people act like I have 2 heads. Between all the terrible people in the world and everyone being told from birth to not talk to strangers, it's really hard to do that now, but most people see me as harmless. Take care

I'm the straight opposite of chatterbox with strangers. You would think I couldn't talk. It must be nice to be able to talk to anyone...you get to make new friends....but yeah...you have to be safe too.

I also used to be a chatterbox but after marraige it came down drastically as I realised how important and good it is to be listener than a speaker with some unpleasant experiences within my family.

I am a chatterbox. But, I am not the worse I have ever known. Some people can not help themselves and it is sad. I offered my then seven year old niece a dollar to be quiet for a half hour. She really tried, but could not do it. I ended up giving her the dollar, because I know she really tried. I knew this girl once. She got on her parents nerves so bad that she said they would tell her, go to your room and don't come out until we tell you to. I have been in the middle of explaining to someone that they talk too much and they can't even hear me, because they never stop talking. The thing that I hate is when I am talking to a friend on the phone and I tell them that I have to go and they keep on talking. Even if I am falling asleep, they continue to talk. I have been know to put the phone down or simply hang up. I mean, what else am I to do?

I would way rather be around someone who can keep up their end of the conversation. It is not that I'm a bad listener, it is just that I can't stand trying to listen to people who are not talking. Long pauses in conversation drive me up the wall. So if you will talk I will listen, but if you sit there a look at me and say nothing, then I will probably fill the space! Of course if the chatterbox is selfish and just hogging the conversation that is another matter., but I know you would never do that!

Oh no...I would never do that. Like you said if the other person is the quiet kind, I usually do the talking. And when I am with my girl friends (which is once in a couple of months), we all end up talking together at the same time...trying to fill the gaps...lol and then we all stop at once and start over...we laugh and then take turns. But it's actually fun then and makes us feel like a bunch of school girls!

I'm a listener, and fear not, my patience is high most of the time. I know it might shock a few, but yes I'm more of a listener and not much of a talker. Maybe that's why I have a penchant for net discussion. Well, there are times in real life I have the same discussions, or even deeper discussions. Rambling, but just something I thought of.

I can imagine the plight of that friend! He must indeed have suffered a lot to have paid someone just to be quiet. I guess i belong to the listener category. I am more of a listener than a chatterbox. The problem with such talkers is that they don't realise that not everyone enjoys their prattle... I hope i will never have to travel with you (no hard feelings :) )

lol...no hard feelings! I prefer having someone being frank. Anyways that incident was when I was 12! I do understand my friend's plight though because I find that my son is a chatterbox and doesn't stop for a second when we are in the car. I can't really tell him anything because I know that was how I was:) Fortunately, my friends don't mind my prattle and I always make sure I do it when they are not busy and they tell me to stop when it gets too much!

lol..your younger one sounds like my second one. Oh, I can shut up when I need too. When I was at school, I was the class psychologist...everyone who had a problem would come to me to talk about it....sometimes they just needed to vent and I would listen. Oh yes, but given a chance I can talk non-stop...lol

I wish I could be more outgoing but I had always been the silent type. I am an introvert, I usually keep things to myself. When I am in a discussion, I tend to be the listener rather than the talker. Sometimes people even tell me that I should say something too. LOL

I don't understand why the silent ones wish to be more outgoing. There are all kinds in the world and you have to be happy for who you are. That's what is more important! I like people who are silent. I wonder what they are thinking about? It gives them an aura of mysteriousness:)
