I was recently watching a program called Jon & Kate plus 8. For those who haven't heard of it this family has a set of 6 year olds and 6 2 year olds. Kate the mom spends 150 dollar a week on grocery's for 10 people and she buys mostly organic food. I am in shock! That is 15 dollars a person for a week! How does everyone compare?

I don't have much budget on our grocery. There are only three of us who are grown up and 1 two year old in the family. I buy mostly fish and vegetables for health reasons. We are on strict diet as of the moment after we have found out that my cholesterol is a bit high and my husband's sugar level is also a bit higher than the normal. So I don't spend much on food these days.

That is a great show. Kate is amazing...I don't know how she does half the things she does. I noticed she often makes a lot of meals at once, from scratch. She uses coupons and doesn't get a lot of expensive "convenience" foods. Still, $150 a week for 10 people really is impressive. We spend about $90 a week for 3 people.

I love to watch that show but I never saw this episode. Her kids dont eat much but still with organic food I dont know how she does it.
We spend $250 a month on food. That is what our budget is set for. Some months I dont spend it and I can roll over the extra money into a savings account that we use for bulk buying when the case lot sales come around. I am a huge numbers cruncher so I love to know what we are living on and how we can cut back. I have shopped for January and I spent about $150. I will still need to go back in 2 weeks for bread milk and eggs, but that should be less than $15 so we will have a good deposit for our bulk account this month. Yay!

I spend around $425 a month for 4 people, but we always have a ton of food on hand. The pantry is always stocked and the freezer and fridge are always stocked as well. I could probably go to the store and buy about $40 worth of stuff we are running low on and be fine for a month with what is already in the house.

150 a week for 10 people.. holy crap... i didnt even think that was possible... when im in the city there are 6 of us and when im in the country there is 4 of us... in the city we spend about 300 a week on food... we buy alot of bulk foods as well.. lots of meets etc... when in the country we spend about 100 a week and that minus meat as we dont have to pay for our meat beef, chicken or pigs... so that helps cut down the costs alot...

I have never seen the show, but I'm not sure they are telling the whole story. I wonder how much extra food they get from food boxes, donations, etc. I'm sorry... I just don't buy it. I guess I am skeptical at heart. I spend about $125 per week for my family of 4. I also count household items in that list, too, though (things like toilet paper, toothpaste, deoderant, etc). I've watched some shows on how to do things a lot cheaper, but I think a lot of the tips are unrealistic for most people.

We are a family of 7 with a large dog and 2 cats. We spend between $200-$300 every month for groceries. That includes food for us and the animals plus all paper products and health and beauty products.
